Customer summary
The Ford Maverick has garnered a positive reputation among owners across its various model years, particularly for its practicality, good value, and performance. Many drivers appreciate the hybrid option and fuel efficiency in newer models, along with the compact size that makes it ideal for city driving. However, some complaints arise about limited rear seating space and occasional dealer markups above MSRP. Older models are praised for their fun driving experience and solid build quality, but they come with a few maintenance concerns. Overall, the Maverick is seen as a versatile choice, balancing utility and economy with a touch of nostalgia for classic enthusiasts.

Is the Ford Maverick a good car?
Yes — the Ford Maverick earns a strong all-generations user rating, and owners consistently point to its practicality, value, and fuel efficiency. The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise the Maverick for its compact size, everyday usefulness, and efficient hybrid setup, with many also highlighting its comfortable seating and city-friendly character. 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Ford Maverick models reliable?
Owners consistently rate the Maverick highly for practicality, value, and fuel efficiency, and expert commentary reinforces its everyday usefulness and strong packaging. Across the model years, the Maverick’s reputation centers on being a compact truck that fits urban driving and light hauling especially well.
- Owners rate the Ford Maverick between 4.38 and 4.65 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by checking condition carefully and confirming recall work has been completed.
What should I look for when buying a used Ford Maverick?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.1% |
| 2025 | 93.3% |
| 2024 | 91.2% |
| 2023 | 88% |
| 2022 | 85.4% |
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 with forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control on Lariat or Tremor.
- Infotainment: Sync 4 with a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The base FWD hybrid returns an impressive EPA-estimated 38 mpg combined (42 mpg city, 35 mpg highway), and the new-for-2025 AWD hybrid is just behind it at 37 mpg combined (40 mpg city, 34 mpg highway).
Which Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Maverick offers these trims:
- XL: The entry trim keeps things simple with basic-chic styling, 17-inch steel wheels, and a charming, functional cabin; it’s the value pick if you want the Maverick’s core utility at the lowest step in the lineup.
- XLT: This trim adds a more polished wheel setup and more equipment than XL, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want a balanced mix of features and price.
- Lariat: This trim brings 19-inch alloys and a gloss-black grille, along with a more upscale look for buyers who want the most refined everyday version.
- Tremor: This off-road model adds dedicated suspension tuning, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, skid plates, and a twin-clutch rear drive unit for its AWD system.
- Lobo: This street-focused model adds a cleaner front fascia, painted rear bumper, side skirts, 19-inch wheels, lowered suspension, and a unique performance-oriented setup.
What Ford Maverick do most buyers choose?
The Ford Maverick years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 2,711 | 31.5% |
| 2025 | 2,602 | 32% |
| 2023 | 2,525 | 31.8% |
| 2026 | 1,439 | 31.1% |
| 2022 | 1,362 | 30.6% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price and equipment mix. They also sit close to the Maverick’s newer feature updates while still offering used-car pricing.
What is the Ford Maverick's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $23,625 | −8.61% |
| 2023 | $26,606 | −5.16% |
| 2024 | $29,136 | −4.51% |
| 2025 | $31,941 | −4.02% |
The Maverick’s used prices are moving lower across the board, which is good news if you’re shopping for value. The biggest drops are in the older model years, while the newer ones are still easing down at a slower pace. That pattern gives you a wider spread of price points to choose from depending on how much equipment and freshness you want.
The 2025, 2024, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Ford Maverick safe?
- 2025: 6/10
- 2023: 7/10
- 2022: 7/10
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on the base XL, with lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control available on higher trims.
For the safest used buy, the 2022 and 2023 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Ford Maverick now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −4.02% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.51%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.5%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $29,136. The Ford Maverick offers a compact, practical truck character that makes it easy to live with in everyday driving.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The standard hybrid powertrain is now available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or AWD, while the non-hybrid powertrain is AWD-only; the hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle, working with a single electric motor and continuously variable transmission (CVT), and this combination produces 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque.
- Tech: The Sync 3 infotainment system has been replaced with the current Sync 4 system, and a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen replaces the previous eight-inch touchscreen; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard as well, along with a new eight-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Safety: A 360-degree camera system is a new addition to the option list for 2025.
- Starting price: For 2025, Maverick pricing starts at $29,840 (including a mandatory $1,695 destination charge) for a basic XL hybrid with FWD, steel wheels, and manually-adjusted mirrors.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

The truck is basic by 2025 standards. But I really like it. Does everything I need. Currently getting 45.1 miles per gallon

Economical with hybrid engine. AWD available and also Lariat trim. Short bed. 4 doors. CVT. Compare to Honda Ridgeline and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Although I’ve only owned for about a month, I haven’t found anything that I don’t like about this truck. Comfortable, easy to maneuver, responsive and economical to run, I think it will work well for me. I don’t need a powerhouse or heavy hauler, just something for the occasional lumber yard run. I’ve added about 1000 miles with the average mpg at 40.2. Love that hybrid engine, I was hoping for good mileage but was really happy to see real results.

Love it! Rides like a dream. Has all the new features, gets great mileage. Seats in Fords are super comfortable. Back seat is roomy. Large glove box, lots of storage, sunglasses holder. Reverse camera. Very similar to an Explorer Sport Trac we loved.

Overview
The Ford Maverick struck a nerve when it was released, becoming one of the fastest-selling models in the automaker’s lineup. It’s a pickup truck “light,” in that its construction is more like a crossover or passenger car than a rugged, body-on-frame pickup truck. That setup means it's not as outright capable as many pickups, but it also gives the Maverick a better ride quality and more comfortable interior, which makes it a more agreeable daily driver.
What’s New for the 2024 Ford Maverick
Ford is swapping powertrain offerings for 2024, making the hybrid the optional setup and the turbo-four the standard configuration. The truck is otherwise unchanged and remains a hot seller three years after its debut.
Design
The Maverick’s look hasn’t changed since its introduction for the 2022 model year. It remains the friendly-looking compact pickup it’s always been, with rounded headlights flanking a black grille up front. The Tremor variant gets orange accents, a slight lift, and beefier off-road tires, while other trims get more on-road-friendly wheels and tires. The back features a unique asymmetrical design, with the license plate off-center in the rear bumper.
Powertrain
Ford offers two powertrain options for the 2024 Maverick. The entry-level engine is now the 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). It can also be outfitted with all-wheel drive (AWD). The 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain is now optional, bringing a combined 191 horsepower to the party. It’s paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and FWD, and Ford will continue only offering FWD with the hybrid.
Though it’s not a hardcore off-roader, the Maverick does a decent impression of one with the Tremor package equipped. It gets a ride height increase, skid plates, a twin-clutch rear differential, a heavy-duty transmission cooler, and 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
Interior
The Maverick’s cabin is utilitarian but comfortable, offering seating for five people. Cloth or synthetic leather upholstery is available, and the front buckets offer good support and padding. Ford’s cost-cutting measures are apparent inside, where the Maverick has plenty of hard plastics and a budget feel overall.
Technology
Ford equips an 8-inch touchscreen for all Maverick models, which brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Upgrades include a B&O premium stereo system, wireless phone charging, and SiriusXM radio.
Safety
The Maverick is available with a range of advanced driver aids that include automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warnings, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and more. The 2024 Maverick hasn’t been crash-tested yet, and earlier model years earned mixed results in testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Pricing
The base 2024 Ford Maverick XL starts at $23,400 before options, destination, and taxes. The XLT starts at $26,315, and the top Lariat at $34,855. Stepping up to the hybrid powertrain adds $1,500 to the price.
