The Volvo 240 has built a strong legacy among owners for its reliability, safety, and solid construction. Many drivers appreciate its timeless design and comfort, labeling it as a dependable vehicle that's built to last. Owners often reminisce about its spacious interior and overall durability, making it a popular choice for families and first-time car buyers. However, some express frustration about its lack of power and performance, especially when compared to modern cars. Though it features decent fuel economy, the need for ongoing maintenance and the cost of parts can be drawbacks. Overall, the Volvo 240 stands out for its robust build and safety, but may not satisfy those seeking a spirited driving experience.

My dark grey 1992 Volvo 240 Wagon was superior in every respect. I bought it new and kept it 18+ years (my daughter drove it for a while, then I took it back). Had hardly a minute's trouble with it. Only routine maintenance and minor repairs. Likely the best engine ever built by Volvo (or anyone else) for durability. Averaged 24 mpg/28 on the road. Never burned or leaked oil. The car was exceptionally reliable. It was truly "the brick" workhorse it was reputed to be. The design had both class and simplicity. It hugged the road and turned on a dime. Perfectly balanced, It was doubtless the safest car of its time, perhaps still is. Through many years our family owned a 122s (Amazon), a 144, four 240 sedans, a 740 wagon and 940 sedan, and a 960 wagon. The best of them all was the 1992 240 wagon. Had it not gotten rusty around the edges from too much salt on the roads, I would still be driving it. I replaced it with a XC70 for all-wheel drive in the mountains. And I'm looking now to purchase another '92 240 wagon for old (and new) times sake. They can drive it from the church to the cemetery with me in it, roses on top!

I love everything about this car - mileage, styling, safety, build quality, reliability. Maintenance is very affordable and replacement parts are plentiful. It's surprisingly fun to drive, even though it's slow, considering that the large motor has locomotive torque. All in all, a dream of a car!

This car is great all around. It is reliable and durable, lasting many years and driving many more miles. The interior is very comfortable with lots of headroom and legroom. Also, additional comfort includes heated seats in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.

A wonderful car that never disapoints. Once you have driven a 240/245 you can´t imagine ever wanting anything else. Its cheap to own and reliable to drive. It might not be a car with the highest number of hp but it´s got enough.
