It was quite a beat up old wreck I bought as a temporary replacement for my BMW 2002 when I rebuilt its engine. The Volvos engine expired in a huge bang while driving into Stockholm to finalize the BMW rebuild.

My brother gave me this car with 160K miles. I spent the summer fixing all the rust holes but everything else was fine. For its day it was a very nice car. 4 wheel disk breaks, fuel injection and electronic overdrive. It didn't have power stearing however and the clutch was like driving a bus. Very smooth ride even on the bumpy back roads in Maine.

1. The B142B engines in this year's model blew up with regularity with 30-60K miles (pistons were too tight for cylinders - Volvo never acknowledged problem); 2. The vent and rear window hinges would disconnect from glass (factory glue problem), and the back window call flip out and break. 3. The factory A/C was expensive and never worked - it iced up with any humidity - on a 95F day in the US it would keep car a comfortable 91F. 4. I have bought 14 new cars since this one -- not one a Volvo.
