Why it stands out
The 2017 Tesla Model X stands out as a midsize crossover that was built around electric performance and unusual design. It shares about 30% of its content with the Tesla Model S, and its double-hinged Falcon Wing rear doors are its signature feature. It also offers two- and three-row configurations with seating for up to seven passengers, making it one of the more family-oriented electric SUVs of its era.
For 2017, the Model X’s lineup included a new 100 kWh battery with boosted range and standard adaptive air suspension. The base 60D model was dropped that year, while the 90D remained available, and Ludicrous Mode was available for the 90D and standard on the P100D. Standard equipment at launch included a 17-inch infotainment touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, a frunk, navigation with real-time traffic updates, free charging using Tesla’s Supercharger network, LED headlights, keyless entry, power Falcon doors, and a power liftgate. It also came with dual-motor all-wheel drive.
That mix of quick acceleration, advanced tech, and premium features is a big part of the Model X’s appeal, and owners often praise its performance, technology, and luxurious feel. At the same time, the Falcon Wing doors can be tricky in tight spaces, and Tesla’s build quality issues are worth keeping in mind when shopping used.
