The Subaru Crosstrek's current nationwide average price is $22,297, and its lowest point over the past year was $22,007. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — the Subaru Crosstrek is a strong used-car pick if you want a practical compact crossover with broad appeal and a loyal owner base. The all-generations owner rating is 4.6/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently praise the Crosstrek for its all-wheel-drive confidence, comfort, and everyday practicality. They also frequently highlight its safety features, fuel efficiency, and easygoing driving character.

Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2021 models among the highest across all years.

The main trade-offs that show up in expert reviews are the underwhelming base engine, the CVT’s noise and droning in some versions, and interior materials that can feel less upscale than you might hope.

35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Subaru Crosstrek models reliable?

Owners and experts consistently point to the Crosstrek’s solid build quality, safety focus, and practical all-wheel-drive character. Across the model years, it earns especially strong praise for comfort, handling, fuel efficiency, and everyday usability.

• Owners rate the Subaru Crosstrek between 4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk looks manageable when you choose carefully and verify history, especially on older examples with higher accident exposure.

What should I look for when buying a used Subaru Crosstrek?

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 80.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Subaru EyeSight advanced driver assistance system
• Infotainment: 11.6-inch Subaru Starlink touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 27 mpg in the city, 34 highway, and 29 combined for the 2.0-liter Crosstrek. Upgrade to 2.5 liters, and you can expect 26 city, 33 highway, and 29 combined. Figures fall a bit short in the Crosstrek Wilderness, but not terribly so: 25 city, 29 highway, 27 combined.

Which Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek offers these trims:

• Base: The entry trim brings 17-inch alloy wheels, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and the Crosstrek’s rugged look; it suits you if you want the most affordable way into the model.
• Premium: This trim adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard roof rails, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• Sport: This version adds the 2.5-liter engine, paddle shifters, the 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and standard roof rails for a stronger mix of performance and features.
• Limited: This trim builds on the Sport with the same 2.5-liter powertrain, the 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and standard roof rails, while adding a more upscale feature set.
• Wilderness: This off-road-focused trim adds 9.3 inches of ground clearance, a ladder-style roof rack, StarTex synthetic leather, all-weather floormats, unique exterior design elements, and extra trail-ready capability.

What Subaru Crosstrek do most buyers choose?

The Subaru Crosstrek years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.

Higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare, more pricing competition, and more chances to find the right trim and condition.

What is the Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

Most Crosstrek model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want to benefit from softer pricing. The declines are generally modest to moderate, with a few years showing larger drops than others. Overall, the pattern suggests a market that is giving buyers more room to find value across multiple generations.

The 2014, 2015, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Subaru Crosstrek safe?

• 2024: 9/10
• 2021: 8/10
• 2018: 9/10
• 2016: 8/10

Subaru EyeSight is standard equipment on the 2024 model.

For the safest used buy, the 2018 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Subaru Crosstrek now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.45% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.58%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.4% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 36.9%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,363. The Subaru Crosstrek offers standard all-wheel drive, generous ground clearance, and a rugged, practical character that works well for everyday driving and bad weather.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2.5-liter flat four-cylinder engine that's been available on the Sport and Limited trim returns, delivering 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. That same base engine is now standard on the Wilderness trim, too.
• Tech: The big infotainment system is standard on all but the Base trim. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad is available as an option across the lineup, standard on the Sport and Limited trims.
• Safety: EyeSight employs a wider-angle lens to give it a larger view of the road and surroundings ahead, and it also includes automatic emergency steering on cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $26,220 for the Base trim level, including a $1,225 destination fee.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
