What should I look for when buying a used Subaru BRZ?

Across all model years, at 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: EyeSight driver-assist tech on automatic-transmission models, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings for the 2022 Subaru BRZ are 25 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with the automatic transmission and 22 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with the manual transmission.

Which Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru BRZ offers these trims:

• Premium: The entry trim brings the standard six-speed manual gearbox, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a standard 8-inch touchscreen, and the core rear-drive sports-car setup; it suits you if you want the most affordable way into the BRZ.
• Limited: This trim adds 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, steering responsive headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic models; it is the best-value trim if you want the most complete mix of comfort, tech, and safety features.

What Subaru BRZ do most buyers choose?

The Subaru BRZ years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare, more pricing spread to shop, and a better chance of finding the trim and condition you want.

What is the Subaru BRZ's resale value?

Overall, the table shows a mixed picture: some BRZ model years are easing in price, while others are edging upward. That gives you a useful spread of choices, with newer examples showing more movement and some older years staying comparatively steady.

The 2023 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2022, 2023, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Subaru BRZ safe?

• 2022: 7/10
• 2015: 7/10

EyeSight driver-assist tech is standard on automatic-transmission 2022 BRZ models, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams.

For the safest used buy, the 2015 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Subaru BRZ now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −5.56% versus a year ago, and the 2017 model is at −4.14%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 36.8% good and great deals, and the 2017 model has 30.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,965. The Subaru BRZ offers a balanced, rear-wheel-drive driving character that makes it especially appealing if you want a sports car that feels playful and precise.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: As before, the 2022 BRZ uses a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, which combines port and direct injection, and the new 2.4-liter BRZ engine makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.
• Safety: The BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech for the first time, albeit only on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights.
• Starting price: Pricing for the 2022 Subaru BRZ starts at $28,955 for the base Premium trim level with the manual transmission.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
