How much does the Subaru BRZ cost in today's market?
Used Subaru BRZ prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $28,977 | $28,622 – $31,365 |
| 2023 | $27,607 | $26,364 – $28,204 |
| 2022 | $26,669 | $25,083 – $27,146 |
| 2017 | $19,852 | $18,828 – $20,507 |
The Subaru BRZ's current nationwide average price is $28,158, and its year-round low is $22,354.79. That gives you a useful snapshot of what this model is trading for right now across the lineup. Recently, prices have come down for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Subaru BRZ a good car?
Yes — the Subaru BRZ is a strong pick if you want a fun, engaging sports coupe with broad owner appeal. The all-generations owner rating is 4.59/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the BRZ for its agile performance, engaging handling, responsive steering, and stylish design. They also tend to value its fun driving experience and strong value, even when they wish for more power or a bit more comfort.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that show up in expert reviews are a cramped back seat, limited power, and technology that some years describe as outdated. Even so, the BRZ’s balance, rear-drive character, and enthusiast-focused feel make it a compelling used sports car.
23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Subaru BRZ models reliable?
Owners consistently rate the BRZ highly for driving enjoyment, and expert coverage repeatedly points to its balanced chassis, engaging handling, and strong value. Across the model range, it has the kind of straightforward sports-car formula that tends to appeal to buyers who want a focused, rewarding drive.
- Owners rate the Subaru BRZ between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For long-term ownership, the biggest risk for used buyers is choosing a car with a rough history or one that has been driven hard without careful maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used Subaru BRZ?
Across all model years, at 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2027 | 95.2% |
| 2026 | 95.7% |
| 2025 | 90.6% |
| 2024 | 86.6% |
| 2023 | 82.5% |
| 2022 | 81.6% |
| 2020 | 53.5% |
| 2019 | 52.1% |
| 2018 | 47.1% |
| 2017 | 51.1% |
| 2016 | 53.5% |
| 2015 | 57.3% |
| 2014 | 58.1% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams.
- Infotainment: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
- Fuel efficiency: 25 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with the automatic transmission and 22 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with the manual transmission.
Which Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?
The 2022 Subaru BRZ offers these trims:
- BRZ Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core BRZ formula with a manual transmission, 17-inch wheels with Michelin Primacy tires, leather upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
- BRZ Limited: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete mix of comfort, grip, and driver-assist equipment. It adds 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, steering responsive headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic models.
What Subaru BRZ do most buyers choose?
The Subaru BRZ years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 183 | 24.6% |
| 2024 | 172 | 23.3% |
| 2025 | 127 | 22% |
| 2022 | 125 | 27.2% |
| 2014 | 105 | 27.6% |
| 2016 | 101 | 19.8% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more shopping choice, which can make it easier to compare prices, trims, and condition. They also tend to be the years most buyers gravitate toward when looking for a balance of availability and value.
What is the Subaru BRZ's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $28,977 | −7.68% |
| 2017 | $19,852 | −2.15% |
| 2022 | $26,669 | −1.72% |
| 2023 | $27,607 | −1.07% |
The table shows a broad downward move in prices, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used. The largest drop is in the newest model year, while the other years show smaller declines. That pattern suggests recent BRZs have softened enough to create better buying opportunities without erasing their appeal.
The 2023, 2022, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Subaru BRZ safe?
- 2022: 7/10
- 2015: 7/10
For the safest used buy, the 2015 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Subaru BRZ now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2024 model is at −7.68% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −1.07%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 23.3% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 24.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $27,607. The Subaru BRZ offers sharp handling, rear-drive balance, and a playful, enthusiast-focused character that makes it rewarding on a winding road.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: As before, the 2022 BRZ uses a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, which combines port and direct injection, and the new 2.4-liter BRZ engine makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
- Tech: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.
- Safety: The BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech for the first time, albeit only on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights.
- Starting price: The BRZ Premium trim level starts at $28,955 with the manual transmission.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2028 inventory to mature.

Customers say
The Subaru BRZ is well-loved for its agile performance, engaging handling, and stylish design, making it a popular choice among sports car enthusiasts. Drivers particularly enjoy the fun driving experience and responsive steering. However, some owners wish for a more powerful engine and improved comfort features. Despite these minor drawbacks, many find it to be an excellent value, especially for those looking for a sporty and fun car.

Reviewed a 2022 Subaru BRZ on Oct 21, 2025
The car's features: The infotainment is slow, and the audio quality is terrible. Loud enough or just enjoyable enough for a regular commute. It offers an amazing 6-speed manual, easy to clutch in and out. However getting from first to second gear are a bit difficult, and you have to hold the clutch a little bit longer before shifting to prevent shaking. This car is so fun to drive. I love how direct the steering is and how it feels, also doesn't have to be too heavy in parking lots. It also rides surprisingly well for what it is. This car is definitely a good value, literally the cheapest RWD car i could find brand new at the time of purchase with amazing lease deal. I couldn't even afford a Honda Civic Si, or a Hyundai Veloster N. This car is just missing practicality, honestly if rear seats have more foot room (not knee room), and a tiny bit higher ride height, maybe 5.3 inches of ground clearance instead of 5.1? It can survive better with a lot of uneven pavement I see here in Vancouver. It's just missing that bit of practicality where I might want to switch to a different vehicle and wished I had the Honda Civic SI. Also the fuel economy is really bad considering it's still a 4 cylinder engine, and requiring a recommended 93 octane with high insurance makes it difficult to own. I would not compare it to any other car except maybe the Mazda Miata, or Hyundai Veloster N. Those are very different cars due to no one making any sports cars anymore.

The brz limited manual is exactly the way I’d go if I could. Not immense power but one it’s still gonna be faster than the average car and two you can always put a turbo in it or something to boost it. Other than that handling and everything else is just superb. Also can’t complain about the interior.

For RWD sporty car you can't go wrong with this car, it's hard to beat the price, in the low 30k range out the door, it's still got a REAL hand brake, and very fun to drive

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Subaru BRZ

Summary
With 177 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,646.00, 30.5% of 2023 Subaru BRZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Subaru BRZ 4.59 / 5 stars.
81.4% of 2023 BRZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Subaru BRZ stands out as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that puts balance and driver involvement ahead of outright straight-line speed. It uses a more powerful 2.4-liter boxer engine rated at 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and it keeps the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Subaru also says the redesigned chassis delivers a 50% increase in torsional stiffness, which helps explain why the BRZ is known more for crisp handling and agility than for brute force.
For 2023, the BRZ also became more appealing as a daily driver. Subaru reintroduced the BRZ tS model for the 2023 model year, and EyeSight became standard across the lineup with both transmission choices. The car’s cabin features a customizable 7-inch digital dashboard and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a rear-view camera, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Those upgrades give the BRZ a more modern feel without losing its back-to-basics character.
Even so, the BRZ remains a focused sports car with some compromises. The pros listed for it are fun-to-drive character, an available manual transmission, and excellent value for money, while the drawbacks include a cramped back seat, outdated technology, and limited power. That mix makes the 2023 Subaru BRZ especially appealing to buyers who want an affordable coupe that prioritizes steering feel, chassis response, and everyday usability over practicality or raw acceleration.
