well, its a 1993 subaru (US name) 'BRAT' (bi drive recreational all terrain transporter) and in the UK a 284 MV pick-up, down under, a brumby. It has a 1.8 (1781cc) flat 4 boxer engine, with 8 valves and internal cam (pushrod powa!!!! lol!) which still sounds quite alot like the EJ20/22/25 etc powered imprezas and legacys. the standard setup of siamease ports (single port in, single port out) heads have been exchanged and replaced with aftermarket dual port heads, having 1 indivdual port per cylinder in and out, fast road cam, lightened flywheel and uprated compression, finished off with the fuel being delivered through a pair of IDF 40 webers, and exiting through a 4 branch stainless exhuast, in a standard setup, this would be around 85-7 hp, and well over 100 lbs torque, with the uprated engine, should be double that it handles quite well currently, due to the springs being cut, and the torsion bar clocked down a notch, which is all soon to be replaced by adj. shocks on the back, accompnying the torsion bar, and uprated coilover converson on the front with camber plates and strut brace. The transmission is due to be upgraded by having a rear LSD, as it is RWD only now, and some new rubber on increased sized weller style 8 spoke wheels, which also drastically increase handling build quality, well this is debateable, its made from 80's steel, which is pretty poor on most old skool stuff! rusts so damn badly! but the truck in a standard state, has proven to be pretty reliable with only small problems, the major one being front driveshafts, which doesnt matter, as i dont have these anymore! in standrd state, its not cheap to run on fuel compared to a diesel, but not drastically expensive, i for one dont really care, and thats what i earn the money for!! haha! its quite a high maintainance vehicle, if you want to keep it in tip top shape standard, its enjoyable, but in the more modified state it is in now, its proper good fun! and its only gonna get better! haha! the great thing with these is, you can either make it fast and do the corners well, or jack it up 6" and whack some big rubber on it, and push through the mud, it covers most tastes!

This is my third one. So you know I love it. best feature-gear driven cam. no timing belt problems. Great car in the snow. Great MPG. Versatility. Many handy features. Hill holder clutch. Studebaker had this in 1948-haven't seen another one til on my brats.

Where else can you get car MPG with 4x4 truck functionality? And t-tops. And a tire under the hood. And seats in the bed. And random strangers shouting at you how much they love your car. The carb was badly designed though, someday I want to put an aftermarket webber on it. To much vaccum lines makes brat a sad car.

1.8 liter ea-81 engine 4 speed manual... 4wd... jus plain fun specially on the highway its really efficient but still can go fast when you want it to... breaks are not really good but by modifying a little its more than enough

This car is in running operation with some minor problems needs a new cluth and some newer tires. The interior is a little torn and the back hold on handle for rear seats is missing. I cannot pop the hood from the inside and I need to know the best place to get a repair manual. The exterior is a little shabby with some dents and dings and the outside metal boards are rusted badly and need repair. Yes, I would recommend this car to a friend.
