(18 reviews)My husband and I owned this car for 18 years, and I sold it to buy my VW Golf GTi. I am not sorry I did but do wish we could have kept the Saab around for a hobby car. It is quirky, fun to drive, and SAFE. It's also slow since it's a heavy car with an underpowered engine (that's why they did the Turbo) and ours was not a Turbo. I also had biceps like Popeye since it did not have power steering! Braking was exceptionally good. It got good gas mileage and was a DREAM on the highway. We drove it to Nebraska from CA and back, twice, and it was the best car to travel in. It was a 5-door, meaning it had four passenger doors and one large hatch. We camped in it with the seat folded down and it held all our stuff plus a 90-lb Doberman! It will cost you a fortune to repair and maintain so unless you are willing to spend the money to do this get a Toyota instead. It's oddities made me love it more. If you are not like me and just want a basic cookie-cutter car you can thrash around, a Saab is not for you. They need tender loving care, and these old ones deserve it. I wish I could find my car, I'd buy it all over again.
I had two. '76 two-door 4-speed. Very aerodynamic. Great on ice and snow in Wisconsin. Lots of little problems but nothing major. Loved it and drove it for 13 years. Also had a 76 four door automatic. Lots of little quirks. Klunky transmission. Got rear-ended by a Jeep. Demolished the front end of the Jeep, put a teeny scratch on my rear bumper.
It's definitely not a performance car, but it is a solid car from the period with a great safety record. This is a fun car, with respectable gas mileage and maintenance and unique styling. The exterior is a love/hate relationship with most people, but the interior is just what would be expected from the period. I am currently working on restoring it right now. Just love these SAABs!
Had a lot of fun with this car. Not very fast but it handled well. I added a Porsche style wale tail which is pretty lame now but didn't seem like it at the time. Steering was awesome. Heated Seats. Sunroof. Great memories.
Saab was nice car to drive, very confy, and warm during winters. Performance was adequate, but due to the high mileage when I got it, it had quite many technical failures. Hand break turns were out of the question because it affected to the fornt wheels. Nevertheless, it was my first car so I have good memories about it. Finally, I changed the car to wireless telephone/answer machine combination before the army and I got better money from the phone than I would have got from the car...
