6.4 hemi with 8 speed trans of pure muscle. Everything you need and none of the bells and whistles that’s going to increase your parts cost. 2nd ram I’ve owned, first 2500. Buy this truck. This model. You want fancy steering wheel warmers, drive your wife’s car. If you want a tool in the shed that will tote the mail and make your voice deeper when you talk, drive this.

Features are great. Good value for the price I paid. I think the necessary performance upgrades required to make it reliable are excessively overpriced but as a stock vehicle it was priced right.

Overview
About the RAM 2500
After splitting from Dodge, Ram trucks have become surprisingly upscale, but they remain rugged workhorses underneath the posh interiors and advanced tech. That’s especially true for the Ram 2500, the entry point into the brand’s HD lineup. It’s offered with a variety of powerful gas and Cummins diesel engines, and it delivers surprising off-road capability when properly equipped. The massive pickup truck is available in trims ranging from the utilitarian Ram 2500 Tradesman to the downright luxurious Ram 2500 Limited, and its price tag is just as diverse.
What are the advantages of the RAM 2500?
The Ram 2500 offers hardcore towing capacity and payload ratings, along with better-than-necessary off-road chops. At the same time, its cabin is a nice place to spend time, and Ram equips the truck with great tech.
What is the best RAM 2500 model year?
Any model year after the 2019 redesign is a good year. Most Ram 2500 trim levels get fantastic tech and upscale interior finishes, and off-road trims are available. The truck’s ride quality and usability also received improvements with the redesign, so those model years are best if you plan on using your truck daily.
What are the disadvantages of the RAM 2500?
Some HD trucks seem to shrink in size after a few moments behind the wheel, but not the Ram 2500. It’s a large truck, and it does everything it can to remind the driver of its size. Ram also limits the availability of its most powerful diesel to certain trims and configurations.
Comparison: Is the RAM 2500 better than the RAM 1500?
The Ram 2500 is a heavy-duty truck, and it is in a different league than the 1500. The Ram 1500 is a full-size light-duty truck that can tow a decent amount of weight, but it isn’t designed for super heavy loads, and its payload capacity is far short of its heavy-duty counterpart. That said, the Ram 2500’s road manners and comfort level may not be up to normal drivers’ standards.
How much cargo space does the RAM 2500 have?
The Ram 2500 has 57.5 cubic feet of bed cargo capacity with the 6-foot 4-inch bed, and 74.7 cubic feet with the eight-foot bed.
What is the best engine for the RAM 2500?
The high-output 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six is the top-dog powertrain choice for the Ram 2500.
Horsepower and Torque
The Ram 2500's 6.4-liter V8 engine makes 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.
Transmission
Most Ram 2500 models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, although diesel models employ a six-speed automatic transmission.
