Customers say

The Plymouth Duster, across its model years, is often celebrated for its classic styling, impressive performance, and the nostalgic feelings associated with driving a piece of automotive history. Owners generally appreciate the Duster's powerful engines, especially the V8 options, and its fun driving experience, making it a popular choice for enthusiasts looking for a project car to restore or upgrade. However, mechanical reliability can be a concern, particularly with older models that may require significant repairs and maintenance. Despite these challenges, many drivers enjoy the unique charm and spirited performances of the Duster, indicating a strong fondness for its design and engine capabilities.

Even though this car is almost 40 years old, it's really not too different from modern cars. Old Mopars like these are more like projects and have many different forms they can be built into. Road race machine, street/strip car, cruiser, or a combination of those. The fantastic Chrysler A-body "compact" line (not by today's standards, of course) abounds with engineering excellence not seen in Ford and GM products of the time period. Torsion-bar front suspension, Unibody construction, and powerful yet efficient slant-6 and LA small-block V8's are some of the main points. Amazingly, even though this car is built with sheet steel and good ol' cast iron and is more than 17 feet long, it weighs under 3200 lbs. (common weight for today's compacts) and glides along on the highway like a car twice its weight. This car was fun to drive even when it wasn't fast; with a rebuilt 318 engine with some performance goodies it should blow away most other "cheap" performance cars. The suspension is also very advanced, and even with the stock geometry these cars can pull over 1.0G in the turns with minor modifications (shocks, springs, sway bars, etc.); mind you, this is without any sort of traction control or ABS or anything of the like. Gas mileage depends on how the engine and gearing is set up; with my mild fast-ramp cam and spread-bore carburetor along with tall 2.76:1 final drive I hope to get into the low-mid 20's on the highway. This car is good looking, even if the paint is fading and cracked, and while not as sexy as a 'Cuda or Charger still looks refreshing compared to the ugly plastic eggs of today. I love this car, although I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wasn't a pretty hard-core gearhead as it does require a fair level of upkeep and doesn't have all the mushy (and weight-adding) creature comforts of today's cars.
