| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $16,842 | $16,003 – $21,006 |
| 2024 | $19,051 | $16,726 – $21,363 |
| 2023 | $16,494 | $15,087 – $17,997 |
| 2022 | $14,813 | $13,331 – $15,837 |
| 2018 | $10,800 | $9,311 – $11,036 |
The Nissan LEAF's current nationwide average price is $16,420, and over the past year that nationwide average price reached a low of $12,471.
Recently, prices have come down for the 2023 and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the Nissan LEAF is a strong used-EV pick if you want an affordable, comfortable commuter with easy everyday usability.
The all-generations owner rating is 4.4/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the LEAF for its affordability, smooth driving experience, comfort, and low running costs. Many also value its practical interior space and city-friendly character, which make it an easy car to live with for daily driving.
Expert reviews rate the 2026 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The trade-offs that come up most often are limited range on older models, pedestrian performance in some years, and charging tech that trails newer EVs in the earlier generations.
41.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Nissan LEAF models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the LEAF’s smooth, quiet driving character, practical everyday usability, and low running costs. Across the model line, it comes across as a straightforward electric car that fits commuting and local driving well.
- Owners rate the Nissan LEAF between 3.33 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most tied to battery condition and how the car was charged over time, so a careful battery check matters most on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Nissan LEAF?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.1% |
| 2025 | 95.4% |
| 2024 | 94.8% |
| 2023 | 91.8% |
| 2022 | 85% |
| 2021 | 77.5% |
| 2020 | 78.1% |
| 2019 | 80.7% |
| 2018 | 75.5% |
| 2017 | 77.8% |
| 2016 | 72.5% |
| 2015 | 76.7% |
| 2014 | 68.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2015 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: ProPILOT Assist with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control
- Infotainment: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Range & charging: 303 miles, 75-kWh pack, 35 minutes
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, review how often the car was charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm the remaining battery warranty coverage before you buy.
Which Nissan LEAF trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan LEAF offers these trims:
- Leaf S: The entry trim brings a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 18-inch steel wheels, a 174-horsepower motor, and a 52-kWh battery pack, making it the value-focused starting point.
- Leaf S+: This is the best-value trim if you want the longest range, with the 75-kWh battery pack and 303-mile range, plus the same core tech and charging setup.
- SV+: This trim adds 14.3-inch screens, Google built-in apps, rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, 18-inch alloy wheels, and the more powerful 214-horsepower setup with the 75-kWh pack.
- Platinum+: The top trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels, TailorFit seating, a 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system, front-headrest speakers, and V2L power-offboarding capability.
What Nissan LEAF do most buyers choose?
The Nissan LEAF years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2026.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 1,052 | 44.7% |
| 2025 | 912 | 45.9% |
| 2026 | 711 | 45% |
| 2023 | 414 | 40.8% |
| 2022 | 246 | 32.1% |
| 2021 | 120 | 35.8% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more choices, more price spread, and a better chance of finding the trim and condition you want. They also tend to attract more deal-priced listings, which helps if you want to compare several similar cars before buying.
What is the Nissan LEAF's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $16,842 | −10.62% |
| 2023 | $16,494 | −2.32% |
| 2022 | $14,813 | −0.76% |
| 2024 | $19,051 | +4.4% |
| 2018 | $10,800 | +6.76% |
Most of the listed years are moving lower year over year, which is helpful if you’re shopping used and want a better entry point. A couple of years are moving up instead, so the market is not falling uniformly across the lineup. The biggest drops are the most meaningful for buyers looking at recent model years.
The 2022 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2018, 2024, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Nissan LEAF now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −10.62% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −2.32%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 45.9% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 40.8%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,051. The Nissan LEAF offers a quiet, comfortable, city-friendly driving experience that makes it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: 303 miles, 75-kWh pack, 35 minutes
- Tech: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google built-in apps
- Safety: standard driver-assist features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system
- Starting price: The Leaf S+ starts at $31,485.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
Overall, drivers of the Nissan LEAF across all model years appreciate its affordability, smooth driving experience, and comfort, especially for city commuting. Many praise its low maintenance costs and decent interior space, making it a practical choice for local driving. The leaf is loaded with the features that matter, it is fun to drive and handles well , and will efficiently get me from point a to point b. It handles well on snow and ice, low center of gravity, the heated seats and steering wheel are perfect for Colorado winters and mountain driving.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

I've only had the car a couple of days, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase over all. I wish I had a few more amenities that came with the SL like: heated seats, 360° cameras, but I can do without it. The ePedal, ECO mode, charger timer and seamless use of free charging where I work are amazing! I do have to take the car to the dealer to correct the sound of the reverse alert, but overall very excited and happy with my choice.

CarGurus recommends the 2025 Nissan LEAF

Summary
With 918 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,872, 46.4% of 2025 Nissan LEAF listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2025 Nissan LEAF stands out as one of the most recognizable names in the electric-car market, and its appeal is rooted in value, comfort, and everyday usability. In the buying guide, Nissan’s Leaf is described as an excellent value for money, comfortable, and quiet inside, which helps explain why it has remained a familiar choice for shoppers looking for an affordable EV rather than a flashy one. For buyers who can charge at home and do not need long-distance capability every day, that combination of low-key practicality is a major part of the LEAF’s appeal.
What makes the 2025 Nissan LEAF distinctive is the way it sits at the end of the model’s second generation, which brought meaningful improvements over the original car. Nissan released that generation for the 2018 model year with a larger battery that could deliver up to 150 miles of range and a more powerful drivetrain rated at 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It also added e-Pedal technology, allowing drivers to rely heavily on regenerative braking for one-pedal driving, and later updates brought Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with Nissan Safety Shield 360. The same generation also offered vehicle-to-home technology through NissanConnect, letting the battery help power a home during an outage for up to two days, which gives the LEAF a practical edge that goes beyond simple commuting.
At the same time, the LEAF’s limitations are part of its story. The buying guide notes pedestrian performance, limited range on older models, and old charging tech in the first two generations, and it also points out that first- and second-generation LEAF EVs use an air-cooled battery pack that is likely to lose range as it ages. For shoppers considering a 2025 LEAF, that means the car’s strengths are best understood as affordability, comfort, and useful everyday features rather than class-leading speed or long-range capability.
