The Mitsubishi FTO is celebrated for its striking design and engaging performance, with owners consistently praising its handling, acceleration, and the sporty driving experience it delivers. The V6 engine is often highlighted for its power and impressive speed. However, some drivers have raised concerns about the quality of the interior, the high cost of maintenance, and a few reliability issues. Overall, the FTO remains a fun and appealing option for those who appreciate a sporty ride, although expectations regarding power might need to be tempered.

My FTO is a GPX MIVEC and is plenty of fun to drive. Although not quite as fast as some might expect she has a fair turn of speed when needed. The sports seats are so comfortable and the tiptronic gear box means you can either be a lazy driver or have some fun!
Driving this FTO is an absolute joy. My 1996 GPX (2000CC V6 Manual MIVEC) handles beautifully and has plenty of speed. The acceleration does not put you back in your seat - there are definately faster cars out there - but it is more than enough, and you get some extra boost at 5500 revs when the MIVEC kicks in. It is an absolutely beautiful car and turns plenty of heads.
Putting together the looks, power, handling, tunability, fun factor and rarity of the model in conjunction with value for money makes it a coupe` well ahead of it's time and very hard to match esp in GPX V6 Mivec Manual Box version like mine was! Then there's the sound of it all rumbling past 8000rpm screaming like a...you know what;)
I bought this car because I wanted something easy to drive to and from work but have fun with on the weekends. It did pretty much what I wanted, it was confortable on the motorway in full auto and fun to use on the lanes in tiptronic. Was put together nicely, only needing tyres and pads.....untill the gearbox gave up. In the end it would have cost too much to fix and ended up being broken up fo spares. Shame, nice car up till that.
only picked it up a couple of hours ago so dont know much about it, what i can say though is that the (2.0 mivec) v6 sounds incredible the more you floor it, the handling is pretty good even in the rain, the interior is pretty good looking with a good driving position, the seats are comfortable and one of the best standard seats i have sat in (the classic impreza seats being the best) the car in general seems to be quite good, once you have got used to the tiptronic box anyway...
