Used Mercury Monterey for Sale Nationwide
Mercury Monterey Overview
The Monterey came to be for the 2005 model year, when Mercury introduced four new vehicles, all fitting its goal of having all models begin with the letter M (the flagship Grand Marquis remains the only misfit in that regard). The Monterey became Mercury's minivan offering a few years after the demise of the Villager. Alas, at the start of its third year, the Monterey was retired; its production ceased in August 2006. As a gussied-up version of the Ford Freestar (which has also been recently discontinued), this minivan has been a good performer, earning enough impressive reviews. Although some have said its interior has always seemed to be on the cheap side, it has the amenities that America seeks in a family vehicle, and its crash-test results really couldn't be better. But none of that means too much when vehicles aren't leaving the sales lot at a sufficient clip. The Monterey has also suffered from poor resale value, something its Japanese competitors have never had to worry about. The Ford Motor Company will replace both failed minivans with an upscale minivan, tentatively called the Fairlane, in the not too distant future.
4.3 Overall rating
(18 reviews)This was a nice van. It had a pretty powerful 4.2L V6 that didn't get the greatest fuel economy. My favorite thing about this van was that I could haul lumber in it. The interior was very versatile, the seats folded flat into the floor. I could haul sheets of plywood in it. It was nice looking on the outside; it was black with lots of tasteful little silver accents. The inside was ghastly and had some sort of cheap faux-carbon fiber dash accents and terrible gray cloth seats. The cup holders were in a really awkward place under the center console and there was a compartment on the top of the dash that you couldn't open without blocking most of the windshield. Overall, it was a good vehicle and I miss it.
It's appearence, the emotions it raises up... The car needed some minor repairs, it was lightly damaged in a small accident by it's elderly possesor. Nice combination of champagne and desert-frost, interior in real leather-trim, rebuilt 2005. 30mls/gal, easy to mainten, real fun to drive this car!
Great looking 50s classic, reliable, super flat head engine with all the bolt on stuff. Repainted, nosed & decked, reupholstered to original. Acceleration is moderate for the year it was built, braking is OK & it handles & rides smoothly on the highway, but on the twisty roads its not like a Porsche or other sports car.
390 c.i.327 hp, mercomatic transmission awc mags with cooper cobra tires goes over 135mph bout for 25 bucks at a local farm auction and pulled out of pasture after sitting for 15 years and restored it in my grandpas garage
4.2 L V6 gave good fuel economy (always around 20 mpg combined) vs a pickup, great for carrying loads of kids, then pulling a boat trailer to the lake. Very durable and inexpensive to operate over first 100 K miles of service. Only needed new brakes, tires and a minor engine service repair. Needed one tuneup at 83 K miles. Amazing. Only complaint was that it was a bit loud on the highway at speed.
