Used Mercedes-Benz GL-Class prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2016 | $14,390 | $14,165 – $15,867 |
| 2015 | $13,773 | $13,553 – $14,664 |
| 2014 | $11,725 | $11,725 – $13,277 |
The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class's current nationwide average price is $12,058, and its lowest point over the past year was $11,872. Recently, prices have come down for the 2014, 2015, and 2016 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class a good car?
Yes — the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is well liked by owners for its luxury, comfort, and spacious interior. The all-generations owner rating is 4.58/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, powerful performance, and family-friendly cabin space. Many also appreciate the refined feel and capability that make it a strong fit for shoppers who want a premium SUV experience.
31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

- Owners rate the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class between 4.56 and 4.91 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk centers on upkeep costs and the complexity that can come with premium features, so a careful pre-purchase inspection and service-history review are especially worthwhile.
What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz GL-Class?
Across all model years, at 63.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2016 | 64.6% |
| 2015 | 65.3% |
| 2014 | 65.2% |
What Mercedes-Benz GL-Class do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class years with the most listings are 2015, 2014, and 2016.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | 467 | 35.5% |
| 2014 | 446 | 34.3% |
| 2016 | 308 | 36% |
Higher-volume years often draw more shoppers because they give you more inventory to compare, more pricing spread to work with, and more chances to find the right trim and condition.
What is the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 | $11,725 | −11.33% |
| 2016 | $14,390 | −9.01% |
| 2015 | $13,773 | −6.05% |
All three model years show negative year-over-year price movement, which can create better buying opportunities for used shoppers. The largest drop is a double-digit decline, while the other two years also moved down meaningfully over the past year. That pattern gives you several recent-model options with softer pricing.
The 2015, 2016, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz GL-Class now?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2015 model is at −6.05% versus a year ago, and the 2014 model is at −11.33%.
- Deal availability: The 2015 model has 35.5% good and great deals, and the 2014 model has 34.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2015 model has the most listings at a current average price of $13,773.
If you're buying used today, the 2015 model year offers the best mix of value and availability.

I've met very few Benz 450 or 550 that I didn't like. Most folks who buy these cars are really good "car" people. They maintain the car as it is meant to be. These older Benz have probably the best v-8 ever made. The materials last because they are top of the line. I'm a retired GM exec. And Cadillac can't touch this car for long term durability. The car in the picture is in great shape. Most of these are. One thing to check before you buy is the drivers seat. If it is trashed walk away. You have to work at destroying one of these cars. Best pre-owned car to buy!!

Overview
The newest and largest SUV from Mercedes-Benz, the GL-Class made its debut in 2006, receiving overall positive reviews from drivers and critics. Originally, the automaker's plan was that the full-size GL would replace the G-Class in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. At the time, the boxy, military-oriented G-Class had just celebrated its 25th anniversary and was showing signs of its age. In fact, the GL's name was intended to be a tribute to the legendary G-Class, continuing the tradition of a capable SUV, but offering drivers a more luxurious and contemporary package.
However, due to public demand as well as a number of still-existing long-term military contracts, Mercedes-Benz reversed its decision and decided to continue to produce the G-Class through at least the end of the decade and possibly beyond. It also decided to retain the GL nomenclature for its new full-size SUV, resulting in potential confusion in the minds of some drivers.
One look at the two SUVs, though, and that confusion should disappear. While the G-Class still displays its squarish, functional, military-like exterior design, which dates back to the 1970s, the new GL-Class exudes a much more fluid, aerodynamic, and contemporary exterior appearance, with a hunky front end and a swept-back roofline. Still, some drivers think the GL looks too squarish, although it's not nearly as pronounced as on the G-Class.
The GL-Class comes with the most extensive list of standard features of any Mercedes SUV, offering an upscale alternative to buyers who consider the M-Class SUV to be too small or under-equipped, and the R-Class crossover SUV to be too sedan- or wagon-like. Drivers can choose from three engines, including a fuel-efficient 215-horsepower diesel engine (the GL 320 CDI), a 335-horsepower V8 (the GL 450), or a 382-horsepower V8 (the GL 550, which joined the lineup in 2008 as a replacement for the GL500).
All three trims come standard with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive, as well as such features as four-wheel electronic traction control, an Electronic Stability Program, a seven-speed automatic transmission, antilock brakes, and four-wheel air suspension, which automatically adjusts depending on passenger and cargo weight. Other features include Downhill Speed Regulation, which manages the throttle and brakes to ensure safe driving on steep slopes, and Hill Assist, which prevents rollback when the driver switches between the brake and gas pedals on steep uphill or downhill grades.
Inside, the GL-Class comes well-equipped with such features as a multifunction steering wheel, power-adjustable heated front seats, bird's-eye maple or Burl Walnut wood trim, dual-zone climate control, and window-curtain airbags. The high-end GL 550 trim adds heated rear seats, leather upholstery, and a wood-and-leather steering wheel.
