About the Hyundai Veloster N

The Hyundai Veloster N was completely unique in the marketplace. It was the only vehicle in the United States at the time of its launch as a 2019 model year that featured one door on the driver’s side, and two on the passenger side. The Veloster N was the performance variant of the Veloster lineup and stunned with a 275-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a limited slip differential, and the choice of either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

What are the advantages of the Hyundai Veloster N?

• Side-splittingly entertaining to drive
• The best autocross car this side of a Miata
• A future classic

What is the best Hyundai Veloster N model year?

The Veloster N was only available from 2019 to 2022. Models built after the 2020 model year had an updated eight-speed dual clutch automatic which allowed the car to reach 60 miles per hour in 5.6 seconds, so if you’re after an automatic, you’d be best to select one of those. Aside from that, condition and mileage is going to dictate what the best Veloster N is.

What are the disadvantages of the Hyundai Veloster N?

The Veloster N is very tight inside, and doesn’t offer much in the way of cargo volume. In comparison, both the VW Golf and Honda Civic from the same era are more refined inside, and the back seat is miniscule.

Comparison: Is the Hyundai Veloster N better than the Volkswagen Golf R?

The Golf R has a 40-hp advantage over the Veloster N, and it also has all-wheel drive (AWD). You’ll also get more use out of a Golf R if you’re driving friends and their luggage around. You’d be challenged to put two adults in the back of a Veloster N. But the Veloster N was a whopping $11,000 less expensive than the Golf R when it was new, and that price differential holds true on the used market.

Is the Hyundai Veloster N a reliable car?

The only Veloster N recall was one that impacted six Hyundai models between 2020 and 2022: An impaired “limp home” mode that could result in a complete loss of power.

Is the Hyundai Veloster N worth the cost?

The Veloster N is something that we never thought we’d see: A Hyundai product that could be a future collectible. It has all the hallmarks: It was low production, with just a handful sold in the US between 2019 and 2022 and it offers shocking performance for the money. Yes, the Veloster N is a weird little car that only appealed to a small number of buyers, but so was the BMW M Coupe. Try buying one of those now for less than $50k.
