The Honda Pilot's current nationwide average price is $27,321, and its lowest point over the past year was $24,399. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Honda Pilot a good car?
Yes — the Honda Pilot is a strong choice if you want a roomy, family-friendly SUV with broad appeal. The all-generations owner rating is 4.68/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Pilot for its spacious cabin, comfortable ride, and practical everyday usability. Across the model years, the strongest themes are room for passengers and cargo, family-friendly convenience, and a smooth, easygoing driving experience.
Expert reviews rate the 2020 and 2023 models among the highest across all years.
The tradeoffs tend to center on fuel economy, engine performance, and infotainment polish in some years, even as the Pilot keeps delivering the space and comfort that matter most to many shoppers.
34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Honda Pilot models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Honda Pilot as spacious, comfortable, and easy to live with, and expert coverage reinforces its family-friendly character and everyday usefulness. Across the model years, the Pilot also earns praise for its practical layout and strong value proposition.
- Owners rate the Honda Pilot between 4.4 and 4.91 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some older examples can bring more wear-related concerns, so a careful history check and pre-purchase inspection are especially worthwhile.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Pilot?
Across all model years, at 74.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 91.5% |
| 2025 | 91.2% |
| 2024 | 89.4% |
| 2023 | 84.9% |
| 2022 | 78.6% |
| 2021 | 73.1% |
| 2020 | 69.5% |
| 2019 | 65.9% |
| 2018 | 63.6% |
| 2017 | 60.6% |
| 2016 | 59.5% |
| 2015 | 57.8% |
| 2014 | 55.7% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing suite
- Infotainment: larger standard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: The 2026 Pilot is estimated to return up to 22 mpg combined (19/27 mpg city/highway) with the FWD layout. With AWD, the EPA estimates a slight drop to 21 mpg combined (19/25 mpg city/highway), while the off-road-capable TrailSport drops by about another 1 mpg across the board.
Which Honda Pilot trim should I buy?
The 2026 Honda Pilot offers these trims:
- Sport: The entry-level trim starts the lineup with front-wheel drive standard, while all-wheel drive is available if you want it.
- EX-L: This trim adds all-wheel drive standard and brings a removable second-row seat and leather seats, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
- TrailSport: This version adds decent off-road abilities and stands out for buyers who want a more rugged setup.
- Touring: This trim adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate.
- Black Edition: This top trim brings the most upscale treatment in the lineup.
What Honda Pilot do most buyers choose?
The Honda Pilot years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 4,760 | 37.2% |
| 2025 | 4,193 | 36.7% |
| 2023 | 3,366 | 36.7% |
| 2022 | 3,025 | 37.3% |
| 2026 | 2,886 | 37% |
| 2021 | 2,649 | 36.6% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a strong mix of availability, newer features, and a wide range of prices. More listings also make it easier to compare condition, equipment, and deal quality before you buy.
What is the Honda Pilot's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $28,211 | −10.2% |
| 2018 | $18,057 | −8.64% |
| 2019 | $20,384 | −8.15% |
| 2020 | $22,299 | −7.64% |
| 2023 | $36,572 | −6.86% |
| 2017 | $16,925 | −6.46% |
| 2021 | $24,962 | −6.34% |
| 2025 | $42,146 | −5.38% |
| 2024 | $38,814 | −4.9% |
| 2016 | $14,780 | −4.8% |
| 2014 | $10,768 | −3.78% |
| 2015 | $11,740 | −2.36% |
Most model years in the Pilot lineup are showing lower prices than a year ago, which is good news if you're shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer and mid-cycle years, while the older examples are changing more slowly. That pattern gives you a lot of room to shop based on budget and equipment level.
The 2015, 2014, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

For the safest used buy, the 2016 and 2020 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Honda Pilot now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.38% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.9%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.7% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.2%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $38,814. The Honda Pilot offers a roomy cabin and plenty of cargo space, which makes it especially appealing for family use.
Consider waiting if:

Reviewed a 2013 Honda Pilot on Aug 20, 2025
The Honda Pilot was redesigned in 2009 with a slightly boxer look with larger windows pillars that result in more blind spots than previous models. This is due to government regulation. Outward visibility is affected by the changes, but it is not as bad as newer vehicles. The 250HP 6 is as strong as the earlier model and acceleration times are not affected by the additional weight in this generation. The car is smoother and quieter than both the 1st and the 3rd generation models. Handling is very good as well and outshine the 3rd generation pilots. Interior volume with both rows folded is very good at 87 cubic feet. All pilots are spacious, with the first taking the edge with 91. The pluses of this car is reliability, repair simplicity good handling, quiet interior, and precise steering. The Pilot falls a little short in acceleration and fuel mileage. Typical city gas mileage is 17 mpg with the 2wd and 15.5 with the 4wd versions. Higgway is 21 at 80 mph, which is today's cruise speed. Unless the car is towing, the engine transmission and brakes dont get tired. This car is a 4 star car. It does most things well,

CarGurus recommends the 2025 Honda Pilot
Summary
With 4,258 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,120, 34.3% of 2025 Honda Pilot listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2025 Honda Pilot 4.91 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.5 / 10.
91.1% of 2025 Honda Pilot listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2025 Honda Pilot stands out as a roomy, relatively rugged three-row midsize SUV that is easy to live with. Honda keeps the formula simple for this model year with a single powertrain and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Nearly all versions seat eight, and higher trims can be configured for seven passengers by removing the second-row center section. The Black Edition also returns to the top of the lineup for 2025 with blacked-out exterior trim and red interior accents.
That straightforward setup makes the 2025 Pilot appealing as a practical daily driver, especially for buyers who want plenty of cargo space and strong safety ratings. It is also described as having plenty of power to get up to speed without effort. The tradeoffs are familiar ones: fuel economy is unimpressive, the technology looks outdated, and the front passenger seat lacks adjustment.
