The Honda Civic's current nationwide average price is $19,055, and its lowest point over the past year was $17,566. Recently, prices have come down for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the Honda Civic is a strong used-car pick if you want a compact car with broad appeal and a long track record of owner satisfaction. The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Civic for reliability, fuel economy, and enjoyable driving manners. They also highlight comfortable interiors, roomy cabins, and useful cargo space, which help the Civic work well for daily commuting and family use.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2020 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs show up in newer expert-tested years: some versions reserve the best features for higher trims, the technology can feel dated in places, and road noise can be noticeable at speed.
30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Honda Civic models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Civic as dependable, efficient, and easy to live with over the long haul. Expert reviews also reinforce its reputation for strong value, low running costs, and a model lineup that tends to reward regular use.
- Owners rate the Honda Civic between 4.5 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally manageable, but a careful history check and maintenance review still matter because some model years have known issues and higher complaint volumes than others.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Civic?
Across all model years, at 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 88.1% |
| 2025 | 86.6% |
| 2024 | 84.6% |
| 2023 | 80.7% |

| 2021 | 60.4% |
| 2020 | 52.9% |
| 2019 | 50.3% |
| 2018 | 46.8% |
| 2017 | 45.4% |
| 2016 | 46.6% |
| 2015 | 48.3% |
| 2014 | 49.6% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2023 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS)
- Infotainment: 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: 31 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg in combined driving
Which Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2026 Honda Civic offers these trims:
- LX: The entry point with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, CVT, and the standard 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system; it suits you if you want the most affordable way into the lineup.
- Sport: Adds a more upscale feel with 18-inch wheels, eight-speaker audio, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a more distinctive look; it stands out as the best-value trim.
- Sport Hybrid: Brings the Two Motor Hybrid powertrain for stronger efficiency and more power, making it a smart pick if you want the Civic’s efficiency-focused side.
- Sport Touring Hybrid: Adds larger 10.2-inch instrumentation and 9-inch infotainment displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, a 12-speaker Bose setup, and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking; it suits you if you want the most tech-rich Civic sedan.
- Si: Uses a non-hybrid turbocharged gas engine with a manual transmission only, giving you the sportiest sedan character in the lineup.
- Type R: The performance hatchback variant for buyers who want the most extreme Civic experience.
What Honda Civic do most buyers choose?
The Honda Civic years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,996 | 32.8% |
| 2025 | 5,903 | 32.9% |
| 2023 | 5,070 | 32.3% |
| 2026 | 3,044 | 32.6% |
| 2019 | 3,028 | 30% |
| 2021 | 2,795 | 31.3% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, color, and price. They also often sit close to the sweet spot between newer features and used-car value.
What is the Honda Civic's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |

| 2021 | $19,218 | −3.25% |
| 2018 | $15,951 | −2.95% |
| 2017 | $15,021 | −2.49% |
| 2023 | $23,807 | −2.08% |

| 2016 | $13,818 | +0.39% |
| 2015 | $12,166 | +2.04% |
Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because prices have generally softened. A few older years are moving slightly higher, but the overall pattern still favors buyers looking for value.
The 2014, 2016, 2024, and 2026 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2015, 2016, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

- Deal availability: The 2026 model has 32.6% good and great deals, and the 2025 model has 32.9%.

Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Five Civic sedans are available. In ascending order of price the core models are LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid. Civic LX and Civic Sport models have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine supplying a merely adequate 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. It employs a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters to power the front wheels, and drivers can choose from Normal, Sport, and Econ driving modes. The Hybrids use Honda’s excellent Two Motor Hybrid powertrain, offering remarkable power and impressive efficiency.
- Tech: The Civic’s standard 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system are models of simplicity. You can get a taste of that by choosing the Civic Si or Sport Touring Hybrid, which have larger 10.2-inch instrumentation and 9-inch infotainment displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, access to a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, and more.
- Safety: Honda equips every 2026 Civic with its Honda Sensing collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). The package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. Adaptive cruise control is also standard, and at lower speeds, the Civic features Traffic Jam Assist, which basically means the lane-centering assist works at low speeds.
- Starting price: For the 2026 model year, prices range from $25,790 to $34,690 with the $1,195 destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Car was super clean, better than what the pictures showed. Features are good and it was very low mileage. If I have to add something to the car, it would be the back up sensors and blind spot sensors. Other than that it was a great purchase

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Honda Civic

Summary
With 218 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,206, 62.4% of 2023 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Honda Civic 4.88 / 5 stars.
100.0% of 2023 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Honda Civic stands out as a compact car that feels more refined and upscale than its predecessor, while still keeping the Civic formula intact. It offers strong engine choices and updated technology, and its interior is a clear highlight thanks to the honeycomb mesh panel that conceals the HVAC vents and the better materials throughout. For shoppers who want a small car that is practical but not plain, that combination gives the Civic a more polished personality than many rivals.
What makes the 2023 model especially appealing is how broad its lineup is. The sedan and hatchback both remain available, and the hatchback adds real utility through its liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. Standard equipment on non-hybrid models includes Apple CarPlay and Honda Sensing, along with a 7-inch infotainment screen, LED headlights and taillights, push-button start, and automatic climate control. The Civic also has a strong safety record, with every model in this generation earning some form of Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The 2023 Civic is not the most affordable compact car, and some of its best features are reserved for higher trims. Owner feedback also suggests that comfort and fuel efficiency are major strengths, but some shoppers may be disappointed by the absence of features such as blind spot monitoring on certain versions. Even so, the 2023 Honda Civic remains distinctive because it blends everyday usability, good driving manners, and a more premium feel than many buyers expect from a compact car.
