Are BMW i5 models reliable?

That combination suggests you should pay close attention to condition, maintenance history, and how the car was used before you buy.

• Owners rate the BMW i5 1 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: BMW iDrive infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless charging pad.
• Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, review how the car was typically charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm the remaining battery warranty before you buy.

Which BMW i5 trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW i5 offers these trims:

• eDrive40: The entry-level rear-wheel-drive model with 335 horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque, and an EPA-estimated 270 to 295 miles of range; it suits you well if you want the best-value starting point and a smooth, comfortable luxury-EV experience.
• xDrive40: The all-wheel-drive version adds a second motor, 389 horsepower, 435 pound-feet of torque, and estimated range of 248 to 266 miles; it makes sense if you want more traction and power for a relatively modest step up.
• M60 xDrive: The range-topping dual-motor AWD model brings 593 horsepower, 586 pound-feet of torque, and 240 to 256 miles of range, along with a sport-tuned adaptive suspension for the buyer who wants the most performance.

What BMW i5 do most buyers choose?

The BMW i5 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2026.

Higher-listing years tend to draw more shoppers because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price, mileage, and condition. They also usually make it easier to spot a strong deal without waiting for a very specific configuration.

What is the BMW i5's resale value?

Both model years show lower prices than a year ago, which is good news if you're shopping used. The larger drop on the newer model year gives you a stronger opening for value, while the older model year has also moved down enough to stay attractive. The 2024 and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the BMW i5 safe?

• 2024: 7/10

All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.

For the safest used buy, the 2024 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used BMW i5 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

Consider waiting if:

• Range & charging: The 2024 BMW i5 is available with an 84.3-kWh battery pack and EPA-estimated range between 270 and 295 miles, while the xDrive40 is estimated at 248 to 266 miles and the M60 xDrive at 240 to 256 miles.
