The BMW 2 Series's current nationwide average price is $31,956, and its year-round low is $30,419.67. That gives you a useful snapshot of where this model sits right now across the years in the data.
Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the BMW 2 Series a good car?
Yes — the BMW 2 Series earns a strong reputation with owners and remains appealing for shoppers who want a sporty, premium driving experience. The all-generations owner rating is 4.96/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the 2 Series for its performance, sharp handling, and sporty feel. They also value the comfort and luxury touches that make it feel more upscale than a typical compact car, along with the balance between fun and everyday usability.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs across recent expert-reviewed years center on firm ride quality, cramped back-seat space, and styling or technology that may not suit every buyer. For used shoppers, that means the 2 Series makes the most sense if you want driving enjoyment and premium character first.
34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are BMW 2 Series models reliable?
Owners consistently rate the BMW 2 Series highly, and the model’s appeal is reinforced by strong performance, handling, and comfort themes in the reviews. Expert coverage also points to a sporty, daily-drivable character that many buyers appreciate.
- Owners rate the BMW 2 Series between 4.67 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most tied to maintenance costs and premium-fuel expectations, so a well-documented service history matters.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW 2 Series?

| Model Year | Accident-Free % |

| 2016 | 54% |

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry level 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is rated at 241 horsepower, which is 13 hp more than the previous version’s powertrain. The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe we drove increases output to 312 hp, which is 10 hp more than its predecessor. These second-generation Gran Coupes feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) is standard. An even more affordable front-wheel-drive (FWD) 228 Gran Coupe is due for the 2026 model year, though. The 228 xDrive is the fuel economy leader of the 2 Series Gran Coupe lineup, with an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 30 mpg in combined driving. The M235 xDrive drops to 24/33 mpg city/highway, and 27 mpg combined.
Which BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?
The 2025 BMW 2 Series offers...
- 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the entry-level trim, and it brings the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 241 horsepower, all-wheel drive, a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. It is the best-value trim if you want the most affordable way into the lineup with strong standard equipment.
- M235 xDrive Gran Coupe: This trim adds 312 horsepower, upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, a sport steering wheel, and available performance-focused upgrades such as a sport suspension, M brakes, M Sport seats, and 19-inch wheels with performance tires. It suits you if you want the most performance-oriented version.
What BMW 2 Series do most buyers choose?
The BMW 2 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2026, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,563 | 37.2% |
| 2026 | 1,247 | 36.4% |
| 2024 | 1,163 | 36.5% |
| 2023 | 769 | 35.4% |
| 2022 | 672 | 31.7% |
| 2027 | 632 | 35.4% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices on trim, mileage, and pricing, which makes it easier to compare listings and find a good match. They also tend to be the years shoppers are cross-shopping most heavily, so inventory stays deeper.
What is the BMW 2 Series's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $37,743 | −17.73% |
| 2021 | $22,051 | −7.56% |
| 2024 | $34,233 | −6.48% |
| 2020 | $22,416 | −5.65% |
| 2022 | $26,182 | −5.53% |
| 2023 | $34,153 | −5.2% |
| 2017 | $18,059 | −2.88% |
| 2015 | $15,390 | −1.13% |
| 2016 | $16,821 | −0.08% |
| 2018 | $21,926 | +6.82% |
Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used after the initial price drop. One year is still rising, and a few older years are changing only slightly, so the pattern is mixed rather than uniform. The biggest declines are concentrated in the newer years, which can create stronger opportunities for shoppers targeting recent inventory.
The 2016 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2018, 2016, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Has almost every feature I need and want, the price I paid was a no brainer but in all honesty I was prepared to pay more. I wish it had blind spot notice and an Ariel camera view but it’s not deal breakers for me at all. I love the vehicle. I was set on an M240i but was open to years from 2018-2021 since that was my favorite body style. Ended up being able to get the newest and last year of the body style with great miles, and I’d have it no other way. Thank you Chantilly Auto!

One of the best driving cars. Balanced, peppy, great on gas and has all the bells and whistles I need. Roof rails to accommodate my bike rack, ski rack, and the AWD is literally incredible in the snow. Very reliable 4 cyl and never any serious mechanical issues between 70-110k miles.

Get a FULLY loaded version. Don't skimp out on the options. iDrive 8.5 is not customizable, the head unit is locked down hard so you can't access any fun things with your obd2 and Bimmercode. That was very disappointing....

Why it stands out
The 2024 BMW 2 Series stands out as a compact rear-wheel-drive coupe that puts driving enjoyment ahead of pure luxury. BMW positioned the 2 Series as an entry-level premium sports car, aimed at buyers who wanted a fun driving experience and compact proportions. That character is reinforced by the model’s standard rear-wheel-drive layout and the availability of an eight-speed automatic transmission, along with the sporty feel that has long defined the nameplate.
For 2024, the 2 Series Coupe carried over with the same basic formula but still offered a strong mix of performance and equipment. The base 230i Coupe used a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four rated at 255 horsepower, while the M240i used a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six rated at 382 hp. Standard equipment on the 230i included 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high beams, leatherette seating surfaces, power-adjustable front sport seats, three-zone climate control, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and a 10-speaker audio system. Standard safety tech included frontal collision warning and lane departure warning systems.
Its appeal is also tied to the way it balances everyday usability with enthusiast-friendly hardware. The 2 Series was praised for being fun to drive, for its quality interior materials, and for its cargo space. At the same time, buyers should know that the back seat is cramped, the styling may not suit everyone, and the ride is firm. For shoppers who want a small BMW coupe with genuine performance character and a well-equipped cabin, the 2024 BMW 2 Series remains distinctive.
