Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry level 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is rated at 241 horsepower, which is 13 hp more than the previous version’s powertrain. The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe we drove increases output to 312 hp, which is 10 hp more than its predecessor. These second-generation Gran Coupes feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) is standard. An even more affordable front-wheel-drive (FWD) 228 Gran Coupe is due for the 2026 model year, though.

Which BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series offers these trims:

• 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: The entry-level trim brings 241 horsepower, standard all-wheel drive, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the redesigned Gran Coupe.
• M235 xDrive Gran Coupe: This trim adds 312 horsepower, upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel. It also pairs well with the optional M Performance package, which adds a sport suspension, M brakes, M Sport seats, and 19-inch wheels with performance tires. This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest performance and the most complete enthusiast setup.

What BMW 2 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 2 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2026, and 2024.

Higher-volume years usually give you more shopping choice, broader price coverage, and a better chance of finding the right trim and condition. They also tend to be the easiest years to compare across listings because there are more examples on the market.

What is the BMW 2 Series's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room to find value. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer years, while a few older years are changing only slightly. That makes the market especially attractive if you want a recent model without paying new-car pricing.

The 2017 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2017, 2015, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
