Audi RS 6 Overview
The Audi RS6 was the fastest car Audi delivered in 2003. Based on an A6 platform, its twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 engine hit 450-hp and achieved 415-lb-ft of torque at extremely low RPMs. Acceleration was immediate, speed was excessive, the driving experience thrilling. Yet on the outside, it hid all this power under the guise of a luxury mid-sized family sedan.
Produced in collaboration with Quattro GmbH, an Audi racing subsidiary, the RS6 exhibited influences from the RS8 racer that won Le Mans three times. The wide-ranging torque action made it a more responsive car than the A6 and virtually eliminated turbo lag. The RS6 was the first car to feature the Dynamic Ride Control suspension, which was a hydraulic system designed to decrease body roll during tight cornering and turning. This sports-car engineering, combined with the already capable quattro meant the RS6 might look like a commuter car, but achieved optimal performance on the highways and back roads.
The RS6 came with all the standard options found in the luxurious A6 sedan, though the leather seats were more supportive. A lower ride height and stronger shocks produced firmer handling. Understated cosmetic touches, such as subtle badging, diamond-patterned grille, dual pipes, and a subdued rear spoiler distinguished it from its more staid sister. Its main attraction was the powertrain combo and terrific performance at high speeds. Drivers warn to watch in your rearview mirror for cops, because the ride is so smooth you won't realize how fast you're going. The biggest complaints about the RS6 were its price and fuel economy. Because of the quattro and standard features, the RS6 was quite heavy and only got about 15 mpg city.
A new RS6 for 2007 is in development and will most likely carry the same 5.2-liter V10 engine as the S6, but with twin turbos. Its estimated horsepower is somewhere around 520-hp. Hold onto your hats. Literally.

The Audi RS 6 has consistently impressed owners with its thrilling performance, exceptional power, and luxurious interior across all model years. Drivers particularly enjoy the vehicle's handling and driving experience, which combines speed with comfort. However, some owners have voiced concerns about expensive repairs, outdated technology, and a sometimes harsh suspension ride.

Amazingly tractable at low speeds and breathtakingly capable at higher speeds and it gets there quickly. Fortunately the standard Brembo cross-drilled brakes are there to bring you right back down. Quattro AWD will keep you out of the ditch unless you get too careless. Very nicely furnished inside and out; trunk is a little tight as they moved the battery back there to even out the weight distribution. Still not equaled (even by the later S6 and S8) after 9 years!
The RS6 was introduced in the United States as a limited production vehicle in 2003; only 860 were produced for the American market. The car combines an elegant interior - carbon-fiber trim, brushed aluminum panels, navigation, On- Star, Sirius Satellite Radio, and a suede headliner - with an awesome powerplant...a 4.2 liter, twin-turbo V8 producing 450 hp and 415 ft/lbs torque which in turn propels this two-ton beast to 60 in just over 4 seconds. The RS6 can reach a top speed of approximately 200 mph unrestricted. This car is a legend for those who have heard of it, and I will probably never get rid of it.
The big advantage is 450hp (mine is now over 500hp due to mods)that provides a luxury ride that your spouse and your high end clients will love. Very comfortable with the get up and go. If you are looking for pure go fast, not the best car as it is heavy due to the luxuries. But if you want a perfect blend of high performance and luxury.. then it's a great car. At the time of this writing the gadgetry of the car is out-dated (I had to put in aftermarket navigation, etc). It suits me perfectly. I took off the badges as the car is for me, not passers by to oogle over. So, for car is stealthy - my secret weapon. Every once in a while an enthusiast or a youngin that reads all the mags points at my car excitedly while mouthing "RS6, RS6?". I simply nod my head.. and daydream about that Vermont road with nobody on it..
One of the best handling cars I have ever owned love the Dynamic ride control, great power. Only thing for a 2003 RS model it should have had a manual transmission option. Truly a beast in 2003!!! Only negative is costly repairs if needed.
Great car, very rare of that year and very fast! only about 850 was sent to the US. Engine endurance is great, tho its a super sport sedan, it can be use for everyday driving.
