Aston Martin DB9 Overview
The Aston Martin DB9 debuted in 2003 as a replacement for the DB7, which was available from 1994 to 2003. Both cars were designed by Ian Callum. The DB9 is built upon Ford's exclusive VH rear-wheel-drive sports car platform, which is also the foundation for the current Aston Martin Vantage and the upcoming Vanquish.
While the DB7 and DB9 are similar in both name and appearance, the new DB is a dramatic departure from its grand tourer predecessor. The DB7 was based on Jaguar's XJ-S coupe, also designed by Callum, while the DB9 utilizes an entirely new construction. It is the first car to be assembled at Aston Martin's cutting-edge Gaydon, England, plant, and its aluminum-bodied chassis is an Aston Martin first.
This is why there is no DB8. Moving from DB7 to DB8 would not adequately attest to the innovations that separate the two. The DB9 is fitted with same 6.0-liter V12 that the DB7 received in 1999. Previously, the DB7 had been powered by a supercharged inline six. The V12 provides 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and it can be paired with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
Performance is enhanced by the car's perfect 50/50 weight distribution and its remarkably light 3,769-pound curb weight.

The Aston Martin DB9 is a luxury sports car that has garnered admiration for its stunning design and exhilarating performance across all model years. Owners frequently praise its powerful acceleration, handling, and the luxurious feel it offers. However, many drivers express concerns regarding fuel economy and high maintenance costs. While it provides a thrilling driving experience and is often considered a dream car, the practicality and overall cost are notable drawbacks for some.

Superb car! I was worried the exhaust tone might not be as good as my Maserati Gransport but it is wonderful! Truly a dream come true. Volante experience is the best. Lots of heads turning! Watch out for the mpg tho! Currently getting 8mpg! But it’s fun!
2005 DB9s, like all Aston Martins, make every errand special. They make you want to drop 10 pounds, stand up tall and buy a fine, new, tailored suit; just to try to look like you belong with this car. They are an incredible bargain, but occasional maintenance costs reflect the exotic league where Aston Martins belong.
Yes great value. Car looks sound and appears to be mechanically sound.
An ultra luxury sports car for the automotive connoisseur. It turns heads at every stop light, restaurant or club. It has been quite reliable and overall a wonderful experience to own. The car is fast, very fast however it is not for cornering at high speeds. It is an elegant grand touring motorcar that make you feel like James Bond whether you are in jeans or a tuxedo.
Simply an amazing car and a dream come true to drive an Aston. The sound of that engine and the feeling you get when you're driving an Aston will be with me forever. It's a six litre monster and I agree with Clarkson that you could drive it to the south of France, realise you've forgotten your swimming shorts, drive all the way home to get them and be more than happy to do so!
