Is the 2027 BMW 5 Series a good car?

The 2027 BMW 5 Series is a strong choice if you want a refined midsize luxury sedan with real performance credentials and a broad range of powertrains. BMW positions it as a four-door sports sedan that balances a taut, understated look with a luxurious feel, and this generation is larger than before, giving you more passenger room while keeping the car’s driver-focused character.

You also get a cabin centered on BMW’s curved display and latest iDrive system, plus a lineup that includes the 530i, 540i, and 550e plug-in hybrid, with the M5 returning in 2025. The tradeoffs are familiar: the technology can be difficult to master, and the car is pricey and complex.

With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a moderate amount of market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2027 BMW 5 Series reliable?

The 2027 BMW 5 Series is presented as a polished, well-equipped luxury sedan with a strong list of active-safety features and a broad powertrain lineup. BMW’s own framing emphasizes its long-running balance of performance and luxury, which suggests a car built to deliver a premium driving experience rather than a stripped-down one.

At the same time, the technology is described as complex, and some of the best safety systems remain tied to extra-cost packages. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about repair complexity and feature content than about basic appeal.

What should I look for when buying a used 2027 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car’s equipment and service history match the listing. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the electronics, infotainment system, and any optional driver-assistance features, since the car’s technology is a major part of its appeal. Focus on overall condition and feature functionality, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or heavily optioned example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2027 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move when you find the right combination of price and condition.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 833 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 96.6% of listings are accident-free.

Should I buy a 2027 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2027 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2027 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It offers a familiar, well-rounded blend of comfort, technology, and performance.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with strong market availability and very clean inventory, the 2027 is the better starting point. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2026 is worth a look because it delivers a similar formula and may give you more room to save without giving up the core 5 Series experience.
