New & Used 2026 Toyota Tacoma for Sale nearAmarillo, TX

Is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma earns an expert rating of 6.00/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

It fits you well if you want a midsize truck that feels more modern than older Tacomas, offers a broad range of configurations, and still keeps the brand’s durability and resale-value appeal front and center. The 2026 update also brings a redesigned interior, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a standard 8.0-inch screen, with a larger 14-inch display available on higher trims.

The trade-offs are clear: it is still expensive for the class, the interior materials can feel cheap, and the TRD Pro’s fuel economy is poor. The back seat is also only marginally roomier than before, so you should not expect full-size-truck space.

The market signal is decent, with 37.1% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma is framed as a truck with a long-running reputation for durability, and Toyota’s broader reliability reputation is part of its appeal. The expert review also points to strong resale value and notes that Tacomas hold their value better than competitors.

On the performance side, the truck is described as capable and well suited to off-road use, with the TRD Pro’s hardware built for demanding terrain. Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying a premium for a truck that still has some compromises, especially if you do not need its more specialized capability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota Tacoma?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and pay close attention to how the truck was used. If you are shopping for a more off-road-focused version, inspect for underbody wear, tire condition, and signs of hard trail use. If you are looking at a higher-trim truck, make sure the equipment you want is actually present, since feature content varies by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans the SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro. The first three are non-hybrid only and the only XtraCab models, while the Trailhunter and TRD Pro are hybrid-only. Base trims are more stripped down, while higher trims add more premium equipment and off-road hardware.
• Powertrain: A 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is standard, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The base SR makes 228 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, while other non-hybrid models make 278 hp and 317 lb-ft. The i-Force Max hybrid raises output to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft and is the efficiency-oriented choice.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, road-sign assist, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert are standard on most trim levels, but not all.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with an 8.0-inch screen and an available 14-inch display on higher trims. The system also supports connected services, and some versions add a 12.3-inch digital driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The i-Force Max hybrid is described as having better fuel economy, and the TRD Pro’s EPA estimate is 23 mpg combined, though real-world results were notably worse in testing.

Which 2026 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 8 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point if you want the Tacoma’s core capability and the broadest access to the lineup without paying for extras you may not need. It is the most basic choice, so it makes sense if you value function over features.
• SR5: This is the trim to consider if you want a step up from the base truck without jumping into the more specialized off-road or premium models. It should suit you if you want a more balanced everyday Tacoma.
• TRD PreRunner: This is a good fit if you want a more rugged-looking, capability-oriented truck without going all the way to the more expensive off-road trims. It sits in the middle of the lineup and broadens the Tacoma’s appeal.
• TRD Sport: This is the better pick if you want a more street-focused Tacoma with a sportier personality than the workaday trims. It adds a more distinctive character without moving into the most expensive territory.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers who want real off-road hardware and a more serious trail focus. It is the trim to target if you want capability without paying TRD Pro money.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you care more about a premium feel and everyday comfort than trail specialization. It is the right direction if you want the Tacoma to feel more upscale.
• Trailhunter: This is the trim to consider if you want an off-road-ready Tacoma and are willing to pay for a more specialized setup. It is aimed at buyers who want a more adventure-focused truck.
• TRD Pro: This is the most extreme Tacoma in the lineup, with the strongest off-road personality and the most specialized hardware. It makes sense only if you genuinely plan to use that capability.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert are not on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Toyota Tacoma?

The market looks moderate, so you can shop selectively rather than rushing into the first truck you see.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,638 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.9% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a Marginal rating in its updated moderate overlap frontal-impact assessment.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, road-sign assist, and high-beam assist. Proactive Driving Assist is also standard. Blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert are standard on most trim levels, but not all.

The main caveat is the Marginal IIHS result, which is the clearest safety shortcoming in the review.

Should I buy a 2026 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 adds a black front logo on select trims, new exterior colors, a standard tow hitch on SR XtraCab models, and a modernized cabin with standard wireless smartphone integration.

The bottom line: If you want the newest Tacoma with the latest updates, the 2026 is the cleanest choice. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still give you much of the same core capability and reliability appeal for less money.
