New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSpartanburg, SC

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an expert rating of 7.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

It stands out because it is all-new and presents itself in an SUV-like form while still keeping the advantages of its wagon heritage. That gives you a distinctive mix of rugged looks, everyday practicality, and familiar utility. In testing, it came across as equally capable off-road and comfortable on pavement, and it offers plenty of cargo space for active use. The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the value story is strongest before you climb too far up the lineup.

With 36.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent amount of market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a vehicle that should fit well with Subaru’s safety-minded reputation, and the expert testing notes a strong overall impression of capability and everyday usability. It also feels composed and confident in city and highway driving, while the CVT avoids the harsh drone that can make some transmissions feel strained.

The performance write-up also points to reassuring long-distance behavior: the engine response is quicker than expected, the vehicle does not feel overworked in highway merging, and the cabin stays relatively quiet in most situations. On the cost side, the base model’s pricing and feature set suggest a solid ownership proposition, and the standard equipment is broad.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is mainly about choosing the right trim and avoiding paying too much for features that do not add enough value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific car you want has a clean record, especially if you are shopping from the more affordable end of the market. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing so you can confirm condition, equipment operation, and overall wear. Focus on how the cabin, cargo area, and driver-assistance features have been used, since this model is positioned as an everyday utility vehicle.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Premium trim already brings attractive woven textile cabin materials, physical climate controls, and a practical interior layout, while higher trims add smoother materials and a more upscale feel. The Touring trim adds a warmer saddle-brown cabin palette and more premium equipment, but the value drops as you move up the lineup.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, or an XT turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both use a CVT and all-wheel drive, and the base engine is described as more capable than expected.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep and lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver condition monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Touring trim adds a surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and the system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad is available, and native navigation is optional on the base Premium trim and standard on all others.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is estimated at 27 mpg combined, while the turbocharged XT models are rated at 24 mpg combined. The Wilderness is rated at 23 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Touring, Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the best-value choice because it starts at $36,445 and already gives you the core Outback experience, including the practical cabin, standard all-wheel drive, and the broad safety suite. It should satisfy most buyers who want the Outback’s comfort, utility, and capability without paying for extras that do not move the needle much.
• Touring: This trim adds more premium touches and extra driver-assistance hardware, including the surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control. It makes sense if you want the most upscale Outback experience, but the price jump is substantial.
• Wilderness: This is the choice if you want the most adventure-ready version, with 9.5 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and electronically controlled suspension dampers. It is the most specialized trim, so it fits best if off-road use matters more to you than everyday value.

The Touring trim enhances some standard safety features, while the surround-view camera system is also available on supporting trims as an option.
