Is the 2026 RAM 2500 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2026 RAM 2500 is presented as a heavy-duty truck built around serious durability and hard-use capability. Its expert summary emphasizes that trucks like this are designed to work hard, and the overview frames it as a vehicle for buyers who need substantial strength rather than light-duty convenience. The performance notes also point to stout powertrains, including a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and an available 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged diesel with 1,075 lb-ft of torque.

If you choose the diesel, you get the kind of long-haul and towing-focused hardware that heavy-duty buyers often want, and Ram’s lineup is described as broad enough to match different work needs. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the truck’s size, complexity, and high purchase price can make mistakes costly if maintenance or configuration history is poor.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 RAM 2500?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck was used for towing, off-road driving, or heavy work. Focus on wear items that can reveal hard use, and pay close attention to how the truck was optioned, since safety and convenience equipment vary by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Tradesman is a no-frills workhorse with a plain matte plastic grille and black steel wheels, while the Big Horn adds chrome. The Black Express adds a street-oriented look with a Sport Performance Hood, 20-inch black wheels, black tubular side steps, and a black cloth interior. The Warlock is aimed at the off-road crowd with unique decals, a black grille surround, fender flares, bumpers, 20-inch diamond-cut wheels, and black cloth inside. Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited, and Limited Longhorn bring progressively more comfort or capability, with the top trims offering high-end leather interiors.
• Powertrain: Every Ram 2500 uses a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, and an available 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged diesel makes 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. The diesel is the towing-focused choice, while the gas engine feels quicker around town.
• Safety package: Adaptive steering, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keep assist are part of the Safety Group package. Blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, pedestrian detection, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Power Wagon, Rebel, Laramie, Limited, and Limited Longhorn, but optional on Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock, and Big Horn. ParkSense parking sensors are optional on Tradesman, Black Express, and Warlock, but standard on the other trims.
• Infotainment: Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock, and Big Horn come with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Power Wagon, Rebel, and Laramie get a 12-inch unit, and top-shelf trucks have a 14.4-inch touchscreen. Uconnect 5 is standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and built-in navigation is optional.
• Fuel efficiency:
