New & Used 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class for Sale nearSt Thomas, VI

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class earns an expert rating of 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It’s a luxurious convertible that’s easy to live with, and it brings broad appeal for you if you want a premium open-top car with style, comfort, and multiple powertrain choices. The SL’s strengths include stylish design and a comfortable ride, and the 2026 lineup also adds the ultra-luxury Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, which broadens the car’s reach even further.

The trade-offs are real, though: the transmission can be irritating, and the lack of physical controls may frustrate you if you prefer simpler cabin ergonomics.

Good and great deals account for 32.1% of listings, which suggests there’s still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is presented as a premium, easy-to-live-with convertible, and the expert review emphasizes its refined ride and strong overall polish. The Maybach version adds softer springs and special damper tuning for extra comfort, while still keeping excellent body control and quick responses.

The powertrain coverage also points to a robust, high-output lineup, from the turbo-four SL 43 to the twin-turbo V8 models and the plug-in hybrid performance variant. The review notes that the Maybach SL’s acceleration is still brutal enough to make passengers curse, even though the transmission tends to hesitate off the line.

Mercedes also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit as part of the ownership experience, which helps soften early upkeep. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is the usual premium-car complexity: if you want one, you should expect expensive repairs if neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with this much technology and performance hardware. Focus on the transmission behavior, cabin controls, and the condition of the roof, electronics, and luxury trim, since those are the kinds of areas that can matter most in a high-end convertible.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans SL 43, SL 55, SL 63, SL 63 S E Performance, and Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. The base SL 43 is the least expensive way in, while the Maybach model adds the most luxury-focused presentation and is the best-value pick if you want the richest experience without building the car up through options.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four in the SL 43, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 power in the SL 55 and SL 63, and a plug-in hybrid V8 setup in the SL 63 S E Performance. The Maybach SL 680 uses the 577-hp engine and AWD like the SL 63, with added comfort tuning.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, blind spot monitors, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Pre-Safe, and a surround-view camera. Adaptive cruise control is optional, and traffic-sign recognition is also available.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also supports natural-language voice recognition, and optional features include a head-up display, dashcam, and augmented reality navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The SL 43 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, while the V8 models are rated at 16 mpg combined. Mercedes estimates 29 mpg combined for the SL 63 S E Performance.

Which 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is offered in 5 trim levels: SL 43, SL 55, SL 63, SL 63 S E Performance, and Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series.

Here's the short version:

• SL 43: This is the entry point, and it gives you the SL experience at the lowest price. It’s the only variant that significantly undercuts the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, so it makes the most sense if you want the badge and style without jumping deep into V8 pricing.
• SL 55: This is the first V8 model and adds AWD plus a big jump in performance. It’s the right choice if you want stronger acceleration and a more traditional grand-touring feel without going all the way to the top of the range.
• SL 63: This is the more powerful V8 option, and it’s the one to choose if you want the quickest non-hybrid SL with the same basic formula as the SL 55 but more urgency.
• SL 63 S E Performance: This is the performance flagship, with 805 hp, a plug-in hybrid system, carbon-ceramic brakes, rear-axle steering, and an active anti-roll system. It’s the pick if outright speed matters most.
• Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series: This is the best-value trim if you want the most luxurious SL experience. It adds Maybach-specific comfort tuning and a more bespoke feel, and the review suggests it delivers much of the experience of pricier ultra-luxury convertibles without requiring a long options list.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but adaptive cruise control remains optional.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, blind spot monitors, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Pre-Safe, and a surround-view camera. Adaptive cruise control is optional, and it adds stop-and-go capability along with automatic speed-limit adjustment.

The review also notes that traffic-sign recognition is available, along with steering-assist features that help with evasive maneuvers and lane changes. One caveat is that the default 3D surround-view camera image is described as badly distorted, though a 2D view is available.

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
