Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a good fit if you want a vehicle with unmistakable presence, serious off-road ability, and a thoroughly modern cabin. It keeps the model’s boxy styling while adding meaningful technology updates, including MBUX with dual 12.3-inch displays and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also pairs that character with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid setup rated at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, which helps it feel more contemporary without losing its identity.

For you, the key question is whether that blend of luxury, capability, and style matters more than practicality or value. The 2026 G-Class is still deeply expensive to buy and maintain, and fuel economy is not one of its strengths, so it makes the most sense if you want something distinctive rather than conventional. 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a moderate amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is presented as a vehicle that combines old-school image with modern hardware, and its restrained update for the year suggests a familiar formula rather than a major reinvention. It adds useful technology and keeps the model’s established character, which can be appealing if you want a known quantity with contemporary features.

For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is mainly tied to the G-Class’s complexity and cost of upkeep rather than any simple, low-cost ownership story.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the vehicle’s condition matches its asking price, especially given how expensive this SUV is to buy and maintain. Prioritize a careful inspection of the cabin, electronics, and overall wear, since this is a luxury vehicle where condition can matter as much as mileage. Focus on whether the example you’re considering feels well cared for, because that will have a bigger impact on your ownership experience than small cosmetic differences.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some room to shop carefully without expecting a flood of bargains.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 540 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 97.6% of listings are accident-free.

Should I buy a 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers a strong personality with rugged luxury and off-road capability.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the G-Class with the latest cabin tech and the same unmistakable character, the 2026 is the cleaner choice. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it keeps the core G-Class appeal while potentially opening up a different value equation.
