New & Used 2026 Mazda CX-50 for Sale nearPalm Desert, CA

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 earns an expert rating of 6.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It’s aimed at you if you want a compact crossover SUV that mixes driving enjoyment with everyday practicality, and Mazda gives you gas, turbocharged gas, or hybrid powertrains with standard all-wheel drive. The CX-50 also leans into style and substance rather than maximum utility, so you get a distinctive design and a fun-to-drive character instead of class-leading space.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin is smaller than many rivals, the ride is stiff, and the tech can be frustrating. The turbo engine is also thirsty, so the strongest appeal here is for shoppers who value road manners and personality more than maximum cargo room or the latest cabin features.

With 43.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent chance to find value.

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 is presented as a well-built compact crossover with a strong safety record and a straightforward mechanical lineup. Mazda’s own positioning emphasizes a rewarding driving experience and top safety ratings, while the expert assessment also points to a vehicle that is safe and fun to drive.

Its powertrains are conventional and proven in layout, with a gasoline four-cylinder, a turbocharged version, and a hybrid setup. The hybrid uses Toyota-sourced components, which adds to the sense of mechanical familiarity, and the standard all-wheel-drive system is part of the CX-50’s core formula.

The ownership picture is less reassuring on the convenience side, since Mazda doesn’t offer especially compelling warranty coverage, complimentary scheduled maintenance, or generous connected-service perks. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about comfort, tech frustration, and running costs than about a standout ownership package.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mazda CX-50?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a turbo model or a higher-mileage example. Focus your inspection on ride quality, seat comfort, and the condition of the cabin surfaces, since the CX-50’s strengths are style and driving feel rather than maximum durability of the interior experience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5 S lineup includes Select, Preferred, Meridian Edition, and Premium, while the turbo lineup includes a standard trim, Meridian Edition, and Premium Plus; the Hybrid lineup includes Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus. Base trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more equipment, especially if you care about cabin polish and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic and 26 mpg combined. The turbo version makes 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular fuel, or 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium, while the hybrid is rated at 38 mpg combined and uses three electric motors with electronic AWD.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activesense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, vehicle exit warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, a rear-seat alert system, and a driver-attention monitor. Preferred models add front and rear parking sensors, Premium models add traffic-sign recognition and automatic speed-limit assist, and Hybrid Premium Plus and Turbo models add adaptive front lighting.
• Infotainment: The CX-50 uses a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but touchscreen use is limited to those phone-mirroring functions. Wireless smartphone charging is standard, and lower trims get an eight-speaker audio system while others get a 12-speaker Bose setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S is rated at 26 mpg combined, the turbo at 25 mpg combined, and the hybrid at 38 mpg combined. The turbo’s real-world thirst is a key ownership consideration if you drive a lot.

Which 2026 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 10 trim levels: Select, Preferred, Meridian Edition, Premium, standard trim, Meridian Edition, Premium Plus, Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus.

Here's the short version:

• Select: This is the entry point for the 2.5 S lineup, so it makes sense if you want the CX-50’s core driving character and standard all-wheel drive at the lowest price.
• Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds useful equipment without pushing you into the pricier upper trims, and it also appears in the Hybrid lineup if you want efficiency.
• Meridian Edition: Choose this if you want the CX-50’s more adventurous look and the all-terrain-tire setup, but it’s more about image than true off-road ability.
• Premium: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale feel and the added safety tech, including traffic-sign recognition and automatic speed-limit assist.
• standard trim: The turbo’s entry trim is the one to choose if you want stronger acceleration and towing ability without paying for the top turbo model.
• Meridian Edition: This is the turbo choice for buyers who want the more rugged appearance and all-terrain-tire setup, but not much else beyond that character.
• Premium Plus: This is the most fully equipped turbo trim, and it’s the one for you if you want the richest feature set and the strongest safety and convenience content.
• Preferred: In hybrid form, this is the sensible pick if you want the CX-50’s efficiency story without jumping straight to the pricier versions.
• Premium: This hybrid trim is the middle ground if you want more equipment than Preferred but don’t need the top hybrid.
• Premium Plus: This is the hybrid trim to buy if you want the most complete feature set and the standard head-up display.

The safety package is strongest on the Turbo Premium Plus and Hybrid Premium Plus trims, which get the most advanced driver-assistance and camera features.

The Turbo Premium Plus test vehicle also gets surround-view camera coverage, active blind-spot assist, lane-centering support at lower speeds, intersection assist with braking, front cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear automatic braking.

One caveat to keep in mind is the Poor whiplash-prevention result from IIHS, along with the false forward-collision and lane-departure warnings noted during testing.

Should I buy a 2026 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Choose the 2026 if: 43.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

• Choose the 2026 if: Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

• Choose the 2026 if: It keeps the CX-50’s style-first formula, adds minor updates, and retains strong safety ratings.

• Consider the 2025 if: It blends style, driving enjoyment, and efficiency with a new hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the latest version with strong safety credentials and a healthy share of good deals, the 2026 is the cleaner pick. If you’re shopping mainly on price and want the same basic CX-50 appeal, the 2025 is worth a look for its efficiency-focused hybrid setup and similar sporty character.
