Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns an expert rating of 6.8/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

That score lines up with a refresh that keeps the Grand Cherokee visually distinctive while adding a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a bigger touchscreen, and a reworked trim lineup. It still fits the mission of being a stylish, capable utility vehicle, and it remains a towing and off-road champ. The trade-offs are familiar: fuel economy is middling, and the best version is expensive. Good and great deals make up 32.3% of listings, so you do have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is built around familiar Jeep hardware, with a carryover V6 on lower trims and the new Hurricane 4 Turbo on higher trims. The turbo-four is described as impressive, with broad power delivery and strong towing ability, and the rest of the driving experience is unchanged from the prior formula. Jeep also says the new engine should return up to 27 mpg combined, which is a meaningful improvement over the V6.

Jeep’s warranty coverage is in line with most mainstream brands, and the new engine broadens the lineup without changing the SUV’s core mission. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the most desirable versions sit higher in the lineup, where repair and upkeep exposure can be greater if you buy a heavily equipped example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-trim example with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with Laredo and Laredo X, which have 18-inch wheels and cloth upholstery, while Laredo Altitude adds black 18-inch wheels and a standard Black Appearance Package. Limited and Limited Altitude move to leatherette, Limited Reserve and Summit get genuine leather, and the top Summit adds 21-inch wheels and a black roof.
• Powertrain: The base Laredo and Laredo X use the 3.6-liter V6, while other trims get the Hurricane 4 Turbo. Both engines use an eight-speed automatic, and rear-wheel drive is standard with four-wheel drive available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on Laredo Altitude, so lower trims miss that hands-free highway feature.
• Infotainment: Laredo and Laredo X use a 10.2-inch touchscreen, while a larger 12.3-inch screen is available on Laredo Altitude and higher trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and all trims get a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: Jeep expects up to 27 mpg combined from the Hurricane four-cylinder, compared with 22 mpg combined for the V6, which is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 3 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, and Summit.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it keeps the V6, 18-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, and the smaller 10.2-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee shape and capability without paying for extra equipment.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel with leatherette, available 20-inch wheels, and access to more equipment without jumping all the way to the top. It’s the trim that best balances price and content.
• Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with genuine leather, 21-inch wheels, a black roof, the 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and the most advanced available hardware. Buy it if you want the most premium Grand Cherokee experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety-package note: Active Drive Assist starts on Laredo Altitude, which is not one of the core trims, so lower trims do not get that hands-free highway system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,534 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.2% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have current crash-test ratings listed here from NHTSA or IIHS for this model year.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on Laredo Altitude, and Jeep says it improved the system’s behavior for 2026. The main caveat is that the available hands-free system is not standard on lower trims.

Should I buy a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 update adds a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a bigger touchscreen, and a reworked trim lineup.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the refreshed Grand Cherokee formula with the new turbo-four and updated tech. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth a look, especially if you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2026 updates.

How does the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee compare to the 2026 Ford Explorer?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

• Pros: Stylish design, Small-but-mighty Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, It’s a towing and off-road champ.
• Cons: Middling fuel economy, Poor value for money.

2026 Ford Explorer:

• Pros: Comfortable, Optional twin-turbo V6, Impressive safety ratings.
• Cons: Bland styling, Nondescript interior, Gets expensive with options.

Our experts score the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6.8/10 and the 2026 Ford Explorer 7.5/10. The Grand Cherokee leans harder into style, towing, and off-road ability, while the Explorer comes across as the more well-rounded pick overall. If you care most about rugged capability and design, the Jeep has the edge; if you want the higher-rated all-around SUV, the Ford is the stronger choice.
