Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns an expert rating of 6.8/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The 2026 update gives you a more modern Grand Cherokee without changing its core identity as a stylish, capable midsize SUV. The new turbocharged four-cylinder engine is a meaningful addition, and the refreshed exterior and larger touchscreen help the cabin and design feel current. It still stands out for towing and off-road ability, which makes it especially appealing if you want utility with a premium edge.

The trade-offs are familiar: fuel economy is middling, and the best-equipped version is expensive. Even so, the lineup’s mix of image, capability, and updated tech keeps it relevant for shoppers who want more than a basic family SUV.

Good and great deals account for 36.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is presented as a familiar, conventional SUV rather than a complicated one, with a standard V6 on lower trims and a new turbocharged four-cylinder on higher trims. The turbo-four is described as impressive, with broad power delivery that makes it feel quick in everyday driving, and the V6 remains a straightforward option for buyers who want a simpler powertrain.

Jeep also backs the Grand Cherokee with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The new engine is expected to return up to 27 mpg combined, which suggests a more efficient setup than the outgoing V6.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the most desirable versions sit higher in the lineup, so you’ll want to pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-trim example with more equipment. Focus on wear items, electronics, and signs of hard use, since this SUV’s appeal often comes from features that can be expensive to sort out later.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with Laredo and Laredo X, which use cloth upholstery and 18-inch wheels, while higher trims add leatherette or genuine leather, larger wheels, and more upscale equipment. The base trims also keep the smaller touchscreen, so you’ll want to check whether the features you want are standard or only available higher up.
• Powertrain: The base trims continue with the 3.6-liter V6, while higher trims get the Hurricane 4 Turbo engine. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic and can be had with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim.
• Infotainment: The Laredo and Laredo X use a 10.2-inch touchscreen, while a larger 12.3-inch screen is available on Laredo Altitude and higher trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system runs Uconnect 5.
• Fuel efficiency: Jeep expects the Hurricane four-cylinder to return up to 27 mpg combined, compared with 22 mpg combined for the V6, including 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 3 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, and Summit.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it keeps the Grand Cherokee accessible with the V6, cloth upholstery, and the smaller touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the nameplate and capability without paying for upscale extras.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more polished cabin, more available equipment, and access to the larger touchscreen and useful tech upgrades without jumping all the way to the top.
• Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with genuine leather, the biggest wheels, the 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and the most premium feature set. It’s the one to choose if you want the most upscale Grand Cherokee experience.

Active Drive Assist starts on the Laredo Altitude trim, and the more advanced safety and convenience features are concentrated higher in the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,620 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.2% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have current crash-test ratings listed here. It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim, and Jeep says it improved the system’s behavior for 2026.

Should I buy a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 update gives you a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, refreshed styling, and a larger touchscreen.

The bottom line: If you want the most current version of the Grand Cherokee’s formula, the 2026 model is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still deliver the same core Jeep strengths with less money tied up in the latest refresh.

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

• Pros: Stylish design, Small-but-mighty Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, It’s a towing and off-road champ.
• Cons: Middling fuel economy, Poor value for money.

2026 Ford Explorer:

• Pros: Comfortable, Optional twin-turbo V6, Impressive safety ratings.
• Cons: Bland styling, Nondescript interior, Gets expensive with options.

The Grand Cherokee leans harder into style, towing, and off-road ability, while the Explorer brings a stronger overall score and a more comfortable, safety-forward pitch.
