Is the 2026 Honda Pilot a good car?

The 2026 Honda Pilot earns a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It fits your needs well if you want a midsize three-row crossover SUV with a family-first focus, plenty of passenger space, and plenty of cargo space. The 2026 update gives it a more truck-like presence, but the core appeal remains the same: it is practical, comfortable, and distinctive enough to stand out from many other three-row SUVs.

The main trade-off is the lack of a hybrid option, so if fuel efficiency is a priority, you will need to look elsewhere. Another drawback is that the cost-effectiveness score is modest, which lines up with the idea that the Pilot’s strengths are more about everyday usefulness than bargain pricing.

With 33.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is at least some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot reliable?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is presented as a carryover in the ways that matter most, which supports the case for predictable ownership. Its 3.5-liter V6 and 10-speed automatic are unchanged, and the overall formula remains familiar rather than experimental.

The expert notes also point to a confident, easygoing driving character, with acceleration that is more than adequate and steering that feels more stable than before. That kind of consistency usually matters more to used buyers than flashy changes, because it suggests fewer surprises in day-to-day use.

The Pilot also keeps its practical strengths intact, including a comfortable cabin and generous space, which are the kinds of traits that tend to age well in family vehicles. For long-term ownership, the biggest risk is still the same one highlighted elsewhere: you are not getting a more fuel-efficient alternative, so operating costs may stay higher than you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing multiple trims or looking at higher-mileage examples. Focus on overall condition, because the Pilot’s appeal is tied closely to how well it preserves its comfort, space, and family-friendly usability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport and EX-L are the entry points, and the EX-L stands out for adding leather seats and a removable second-row seat. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, while the Touring brings a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a 10-speed automatic. The Sport and EX-L come standard with front-wheel drive, while all other trims come standard with all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Every trim gets Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: All trims get a standard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and you need to move up to the EX-L for a wireless phone charger.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is estimated at up to 22 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 21 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. The TrailSport drops by about 1 mpg across the board.

Which 2026 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry trim, and it gives you the Pilot’s core strengths at the lowest starting point. It makes sense if you want the basic family-hauling formula and do not need the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds leather seats and a removable second-row seat, and it is the first trim to get a wireless phone charger. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you want the Pilot’s off-road-oriented character. The content notes that it remains an outlier for its decent off-road abilities, and it still shares the same powertrain as the rest of the lineup.
• Touring: This trim is for you if you want more luxury and convenience. It adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate, but the content suggests the price jump may be hard to justify for many buyers.
• Elite: This is the upper-end comfort choice if you want a more upscale Pilot without going all the way to the top.
• Black Edition: This is the range-topping trim, and it is the most style-focused choice in the lineup.

All Pilot trims come with the Honda Sensing safety suite, while all but the base Sport add automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer, especially if you are willing to compare listings carefully and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,771 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 91.3% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2026 Honda Pilot was not rated by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing, but the 2025 Pilot received an overall rating of five-star from NHTSA and was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

All Pilot trims come with Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport model also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

One caveat from the expert drive is that the forward collision warning can be a bit too sensitive, and lane-departure warning can also be sensitive if you do not track the lane markings closely.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Clever features help it stand out while keeping the Pilot’s practical family focus.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It keeps the same roomy, practical formula with a single powertrain and strong safety reputation.

The bottom line: Go with the 2026 if you want the updated look, larger standard screens, and the Pilot’s familiar family-friendly strengths. If you are shopping mainly on price, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers the same basic usefulness and may offer a lower entry point.
