New & Used 2026 GMC Canyon for Sale nearPerry, IL

Is the 2026 GMC Canyon a good car?

Yes — 5/5 from users and 6.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10. The 2026 GMC Canyon is aimed at you if you want a midsize pickup that blends refinement with capability: it comes only as a crew-cab, short-bed truck, uses a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an automatic transmission, and puts a clear emphasis on style, tech, and off-road ability. The trade-offs are just as clear, though: fuel economy is weak, value is a concern, and the back seat is cramped. Even so, it remains a likeable truck for buyers who want a more upscale, well-equipped midsize pickup. Good and great deals make up 33.1% of listings.

Is the 2026 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The Canyon’s overall package points to solid day-to-day dependability for you if you want a truck with a stout turbocharged engine, standard automatic transmission, and a straightforward lineup. Its performance notes describe it as powerful, quick enough in a straight line, and capable of climbing grades with ease. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a maintenance perk in the broader ownership experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher running costs and weaker fuel economy can make ownership less forgiving over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies. You should still run a history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and focus on condition details that matter on a truck: tires, brakes, suspension wear, and signs of hard use. Because this model is available in a narrow configuration and some versions are more off-road oriented, it’s worth checking whether the truck’s equipment matches how it was actually used.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Canyon’s trims range from more basic to more upscale, and the base version can feel cheap inside for the price. Higher trims bring richer materials and more polished cabin presentation, while the off-road-focused top model has a more distinctive interior theme.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the base trim, while four-wheel drive is standard on the others.
• Safety package: Every Canyon includes a Pro Safety Package and a Safety Plus Package with forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert with rear automatic braking, rear parking sensors, and automatic high-beam headlights. The top off-road trim adds adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, rear pedestrian alert, and a Safety Alert Seat.
• Infotainment: You get an 11-inch digital driver display and an 11.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and over-the-air connected services. Higher equipment levels add wireless charging, a premium audio system, and camera views that help with towing and off-roading.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is a weak point, and the expert notes describe it as poor.

Which 2026 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2026 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation, AT4, Denali, and AT4X.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation: This is the entry point, and it makes the Canyon’s core strengths available without the higher price of the upper trims. It’s the trim to consider if you want the least expensive path into the lineup, but it also has the most obvious cabin-material compromises and is the only one with rear-wheel drive as standard.
• AT4: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more capable off-road setup and a stronger all-around personality without jumping all the way to the top-shelf model. If you want a Canyon that leans into capability and still feels well equipped, this is the sweet spot.
• Denali: Choose this if you want the most upscale feel in the lineup. It’s the trim that best fits you if comfort, appearance, and a more premium cabin matter more than maximizing off-road hardware.
• AT4X: This is the most serious off-road version, with more sophisticated underpinnings, greater ground clearance, locking differentials, and trail-focused hardware. It suits you if off-road performance is the priority and you’re willing to accept the higher price and lower towing capacity.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while the top trim adds extra driver-assistance and camera features.

Is the 2026 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2026 GMC Canyon earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with three-star ratings for front occupant side-impact protection and rollover resistance. It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts. Every Canyon includes a Pro Safety Package and a Safety Plus Package with forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert with rear automatic braking, rear parking sensors, and automatic high-beam headlights. Higher trims add adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, rear pedestrian alert, and a Safety Alert Seat. The main caution is that the expert safety score is weak, and the NHTSA results include lower sub-ratings for side impact and rollover protection.

Should I buy a 2026 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2026 model adds a new Coastal Dune paint color, makes the Canyon AT4 available with a Nightfall Essentials Package, and offers a lift kit for the AT4X.
