Is the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?

The Traverse earns a 7.3/10 expert rating, and it scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

It’s a strong fit if you want a three-row crossover that blends family-hauling space with a pleasant ride and lots of safety equipment. The Traverse also stands out for its spacious interior and excellent technology, which makes it appealing if you want minivan-like usefulness without moving to a larger body-on-frame SUV.

The trade-offs are clear: the engine is described as gruff, power is only mediocre, and the vehicle is too big to handle well. It also can’t tow as much as full-size SUVs, so you’re giving up some capability for comfort and packaging.

With 39.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?

The Traverse is presented as a well-equipped family SUV with a broad set of standard safety features and a ride that’s generally good over broken pavement. Its powertrain is described as adequate rather than quick, and the standard active noise cancellation does not fully mask engine noise.

The performance notes suggest you should expect competent everyday driving rather than standout refinement. The engine has enough power for passing if you’re patient, but the overall setup is tuned more for comfort and utility than for smoothness or urgency.

Chevrolet also includes standard active noise cancellation, which is a useful comfort feature even if it doesn’t completely solve the engine’s roughness. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Traverse’s size, powertrain character, and mixed refinement may matter more over time than its strong space and safety advantages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Chevrolet Traverse?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific listing matches the equipment you want. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful here because the Traverse’s size, powertrain behavior, and optional driver-assistance equipment can vary meaningfully by trim and package.

Focus on how the cabin, controls, and ride quality feel in person, since this model’s strengths are tied closely to everyday usability. You’ll also want to confirm whether the vehicle has the safety and convenience features you expect, especially if you’re comparing lower and higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LT is well equipped with cloth upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a hands-free power liftgate. Higher trims add a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, driver’s seat memory, leather upholstery, and heated rear seats.
• Powertrain: Every Traverse uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection and intersection assist, front and rear automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitors with steering assist, side bicycle alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and rear parking sensors. The available Enhanced Driving package adds Super Cruise, automatic parking, a driver-attention monitor, and the Bose audio system, while the Driver Confidence package adds a surround-view camera system, rear pedestrian alert, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-camera mirror.
• Infotainment: You get a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google built-in, Google Maps navigation, a wireless phone charger, and remote start.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined, while all-wheel drive reduces those figures to 20/24/21 mpg.

Which 2026 Chevrolet Traverse trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Traverse is offered in 4 trim levels: LT, Z71, High Country, RS.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the best-value trim because it delivers the Traverse’s core strengths at the lowest entry point: lots of accessible space, excellent technology, and plenty of safety features. It’s the trim to target if you want the most Traverse for your money.
• Z71: This is the off-road-oriented choice, with red front tow hooks and knobby all-terrain tires. It suits you if you want the most rugged-looking Traverse and a little more capability for loose surfaces.
• High Country: This is the luxury-leaning trim, adding a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, driver’s seat memory, leather upholstery, and heated rear seats. It’s the pick if rear-seat comfort and a more upscale cabin matter most.
• RS: This trim adds black exterior trim and sits at the top of the lineup for buyers who want a darker, more distinctive look.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, and the available Super Cruise system is a major upgrade if you want hands-free highway driving.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Chevrolet Traverse?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,490 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,934, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?

The current average of $40,934 sits slightly below last year's $50,596.

That drop suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can help you get into the vehicle at a lower cost today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum.

If you keep the vehicle clean, well maintained, and properly equipped, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell. But the current trend also shows that buyers are getting more price-sensitive, so strong presentation will matter.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse safe?

The Traverse earns a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection and intersection assist, front and rear automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitors with steering assist, side bicycle alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear parking sensors, and GM’s Safety Alert Seat.

The available Super Cruise system is the standout driver-assistance feature, and it can handle hands-free driving on mapped highways. The available Driver Confidence package adds a surround-view camera system, rear pedestrian alert, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-camera mirror.

The main caveat is that the Traverse missed the top IIHS honor because of an Acceptable rating in the updated moderate front overlap crash test.

Should I buy a 2026 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.10% compared with last year.
• It combines strong space, excellent technology, and a broad safety suite.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $39,181, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $40,934 average.
• It broadens appeal with a new High Country trim and standard trailering equipment.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the strongest mix of current pricing, safety, and equipment. If you’re focused mainly on saving money, the 2025 is the better value play, especially if you find one with the features you want.
