How much does the 2025 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have softened 8.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,456 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius a good car?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns an expert rating of 6.67/10.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You get a stylish hybrid with easy-to-use technology and strong safety credentials, and Toyota’s new Nightshade Edition adds a blacked-out look for 2025. The trade-offs are clear, though: real-world fuel economy fell short of the EPA estimate in testing, and the cabin can feel cramped with limited cargo space.

That makes the Prius a better fit if you want a distinctive, efficiency-focused hybrid and can live with some practicality compromises.

46.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius reliable?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is positioned as a long-running hybrid nameplate with Toyota’s reputation for efficiency and durability behind it.

Its hybrid setup pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor, and Toyota says the car is engineered on a platform designed for a lower center of gravity and more responsive handling. In testing, it felt sprightly and capable in everyday driving, with enough punch for highway speeds and passing.

Toyota also includes a long list of standard safety and driver-assistance features, which supports confidence in day-to-day use. The available tech and safety systems are broad, and the car’s overall design suggests a mature, well-developed package rather than a first-year experiment.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Prius’s efficiency advantage may not fully match your expectations if you drive in conditions similar to the test route.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, cargo-area wear, and whether the car’s tech and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited each bring different equipment levels, and the base trim uses the smaller standard touchscreen while higher trims can add more upscale tech and features.
• Powertrain: The standard hybrid setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor for 194 horsepower, while AWD adds a second rear electric motor and raises output to 196 hp.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard on LE, XLE, and Nightshade Edition, while the Limited gets a 12.3-inch screen; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the larger screen is optional on XLE and Nightshade.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 39.2 mpg in real-world driving, while the EPA estimate was 52 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2025 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Prius basics with the standard 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• XLE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it builds on the LE with more comfort and convenience potential, while still keeping the Prius’s core hybrid appeal intact. If you want a nicer daily driver without jumping to the top trim, start here.
• Nightshade Edition: This trim is for you if you want the Prius’s efficiency story with a more distinctive look, thanks to blacked-out exterior details and black 19-inch wheels. It’s the style pick in the lineup.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the larger standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and the most upscale tech presentation. Choose it if you want the most advanced-feeling Prius.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included as well.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

It’s a buyer-friendly moment if you’re shopping the 2025 Prius, with plenty of listings and meaningful price softness.

• Deal availability: 46.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,456 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,873, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $29,104 sits slightly below last year's $31,714.

That decline suggests the Prius has softened in the used market, which can help you buy more affordably today. If you’re a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car is equipped.

Because the current average is still close to the middle of the year-round range, a well-kept example should remain reasonably marketable. The strongest resale prospects will likely go to cars with clean history reports, desirable trims, and strong cosmetic condition.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns a coveted Top Safety Pick+ nod from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings in all crashworthiness assessments from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), along with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard.

The system also includes Proactive Driving Assist, which can help with braking and steering support, and the test car added front and rear parking sensors plus automatic low-speed braking. A surround-view camera system is available on the Limited.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 46.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.23% compared with last year.
• Toyota adds a new Nightshade trim level with a blacked-out look for 2025.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,550, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,104 average.
• It blends style, practicality, and affordability for everyday use.

The bottom line: If you want the better shopping environment and the newer styling update, the 2025 is the stronger pick. If you’re mainly chasing value and can find a clean 2024 at the right price, that older model still makes sense for price-sensitive buyers.
