How much does the 2025 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have softened 2.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 358 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The GR86 earns an expert rating of 7.83/10.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

It is described as an affordable two-door sports coupe that delivers plenty of driving enjoyment without demanding a luxury-car budget, and it is positioned as just as comfortable on a twisty mountain road as it is running weekend errands. That makes it a strong fit if you want a fun car that can still handle everyday use.

The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat and outdated technology. The car also asks you to choose driving enjoyment over practicality and modern gadgetry.

With 27.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The GR86 is presented as a straightforward sports coupe rather than a complicated performance machine, and its 2.4-liter boxer-four layout keeps the formula simple. The expert review also notes that the car’s power delivery is accessible and that it rewards drivers who want to use the engine fully on public roads.

Toyota includes scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, which helps reduce early ownership costs. The car also comes with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that a car built for spirited driving may have been driven hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have seen enthusiastic use. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension wear, and signs of track or hard-road use. Pay close attention to cabin condition and electronics, since the technology is already dated and you want to make sure everything works as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the Premium and Hakone special edition get Ultrasuede and leather trimmed seats. Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base model skips that useful visibility aid.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and you can get it with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The automatic is quicker to shift, but the manual is the enthusiast choice.
• Safety package: Every GR86 gets forward collision warning and pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is limited to Premium and Hakone Edition models.
• Infotainment: The GR86 uses an eight-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. There is no native navigation system, and the system is described as basic and dated.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined, while the manual is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, Hakone Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the GR86 formula. You still get the core sports-car experience, but you miss out on blind-spot monitoring and the upgraded seat materials found higher up.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring and the nicer Ultrasuede and leather trimmed seats. If you want the most balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
• Hakone Edition: This is the limited-production choice if you want the most distinctive version, with Ridge Green paint and 18-inch satin bronze wheels. It also gets the upgraded seat materials and the same blind-spot monitoring advantage as the Premium.

Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so that safety-package upgrade is worth considering if you plan to daily drive the car.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 358 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,010, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $32,770 sits slightly below last year's $33,551.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently today. If you own one for a few years, the GR86’s enthusiast appeal and limited-supply sports-car positioning should help it remain desirable, but resale will still depend heavily on mileage, condition, and whether the car has been modified or tracked.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 safe?

The GR86 is a sports car, so it does not aim for the same safety profile as a family-focused SUV, but the IIHS gave it top scores of Good in crashworthiness as well as crash avoidance and mitigation, and an Acceptable score for child seat anchors.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GR86 gets forward collision warning and pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is only available on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base trim misses that useful feature. The forward collision warning system is described as sensitive, and the adaptive cruise control does not have stop-and-go functionality.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.33% compared with last year.
• It adds performance upgrades and a limited-production Hakone Edition.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It sharpens the driver-focused formula with even more emphasis on handling and track-friendly tire choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and special-edition appeal, the 2025 is the smarter buy. If your priority is maximum driver engagement and you’re willing to look at the newer model, the 2026 is the better enthusiast pick. For price-sensitive shoppers, the 2025 remains the more approachable place to start.
