How much does the 2025 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 6.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — your 4.5/5 user rating and 7.5/10 expert rating point to a well-liked, well-rounded used choice. The 2025 Subaru Outback stands out as a rugged wagon with standard all-wheel drive, great ride quality, and strong safety credentials, so it fits you well if you want everyday practicality without blending in with the usual crossover crowd. The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and sluggish touchscreen response, so you should expect comfort and utility to matter more than quick acceleration or polished tech. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Good and great deals account for 37.9% of listings, which gives you a decent chance to find a competitive price.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The Outback’s appeal is reinforced by its practical design, standard all-wheel drive, and strong safety reputation, all of which point to a vehicle built for steady everyday use. Its smooth ride and comfortable road manners also support the idea that it should age well for buyers who value durability in normal driving. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the base engine and infotainment system may feel dated sooner than the rest of the vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific car you’re considering has no hidden damage or title issues. Prioritize a thorough test drive and inspection of the touchscreen response, since the tech can be slow, and pay close attention to how the powertrain feels under light and firm throttle. Condition matters most on the interior and electronics, because those are the areas most likely to shape your day-to-day satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Premium trims use cloth upholstery and 17-inch wheels, while Onyx and Wilderness models use StarTex synthetic leather that is easier to keep clean. Limited adds a power moonroof, DriverFocus anti-distraction tech, navigation, a 360-degree heated steering wheel, an 11.6-inch infotainment system, leather interior, and heated seats front and rear, while Touring XT adds Nappa leather upholstery and ventilated front seats.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while XT trims use a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. Both use regular unleaded gas, and the turbo setup is the better pick if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Onyx and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Most Outbacks use an 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base model uses twin 7-inch displays. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, wireless unless you have the base model’s twin-screen setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter model earns 26 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. Turbocharged XT models return 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, while Wilderness drops to 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Outback is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx, Wilderness, Limited, Touring XT.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Outback, and it makes sense if you want the wagon shape, standard all-wheel drive, and the lowest entry price without paying for extras you may not use.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without pushing you too far up the price ladder.
• Onyx: This trim is the better pick if you want easier-to-clean StarTex upholstery and the added safety tech that comes with higher trims.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the most adventure-ready version, with 9.5 inches of ground clearance, a front skid plate, and extra X-Mode settings.
• Limited: This is the sweet spot for shoppers who want a more upscale feel, since it adds the 11.6-inch infotainment system, leather, heated seats, navigation, DriverFocus, and more.
• Touring XT: Pick this if you want the most premium cabin and stronger turbo power, including Nappa leather and ventilated front seats.

Onyx and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,754 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,713, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $31,713 sits slightly below last year's $33,814.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can matter if you plan to sell later. A softer current price can also mean you have less depreciation pressure to absorb if you buy at the right number. Because the Outback still has strong appeal for shoppers who want a distinctive wagon with standard all-wheel drive, demand should remain reasonably steady.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2025 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist system includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Onyx and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The main caveat is that the lane-centering behavior can feel a little busy, with more side-to-side movement than ideal.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 stands out as one of the last remaining station wagons on the market.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $28,543, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $31,713 average.
• It keeps the raised station wagon shape with a broad trim range and strong practicality.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It is all-new and shifts to an SUV-like form while keeping wagon practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the current Outback’s distinctive wagon shape and strong value signals, the 2025 is the one to target. If your priority is lower upfront cost, the 2024 is the smarter budget play. If you’d rather wait for the redesigned direction, the 2026 is the path to watch.
