How much does the 2025 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 6.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,120 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Subaru Forester earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The 2025 Forester leans into refinement rather than reinvention, and that fits its role as a practical compact crossover. It keeps standard all-wheel drive, adds a quieter cabin, and improves the base model with more advanced tech and safety offerings. Those strengths line up well with buyers who want everyday comfort, usability, and confidence in adverse conditions.

The trade-offs are clear: the styling is generic, the infotainment graphics are dated, and there are no hybrid options available. Even so, the model’s broad appeal and well-rounded setup make it a sensible choice if you value substance over flash.

There are 37.0% good or great deals in the market, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive listing.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2025 Forester’s appeal comes from its practical design, standard all-wheel drive, and emphasis on everyday usability. Subaru also highlights a quieter cabin for this model year, which supports the sense that the vehicle is built for steady, low-stress ownership. Its standard safety and driver-assistance equipment further reinforce that it’s aimed at dependable daily use.

The powertrain is straightforward: every 2025 Forester uses a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine with a CVT and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Subaru also says the cabin is quieter for 2025, which is a useful sign of refinement in regular driving.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the model’s value proposition depends on staying comfortable with its modest performance and conventional setup.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, cabin wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing. Because the Forester’s value is tied to its practicality and safety equipment, it’s worth confirming that the vehicle’s condition matches its advertised trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is more basic than the higher trims, with cloth upholstery, two 7-inch touchscreens, and wired smartphone projection instead of the larger infotainment setup. Higher trims add more upscale materials and equipment, so the base trim is best if you want the lowest entry price and can live with fewer conveniences.
• Powertrain: Every 2025 Forester uses a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Subaru says the cabin is quieter for 2025, and the setup is tuned more for steady everyday use than quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, along with a rear seat reminder system and a wider field of view from a third standard camera. Emergency Stop Assist is available only on vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially limits it to the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: The base trim gets two 7-inch touchscreens and wired smartphone projection. The 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is standard on all but the base trim and adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. OTA updates are standard, and Premium and up add dual front USB-A and USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The Forester is rated at 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, with 29 mpg combined. Sport and Touring trims drop slightly to 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want standard all-wheel drive, the core Forester formula, and the lowest entry price. It gives you the essentials, but you give up the larger infotainment system and some of the nicer convenience upgrades.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds Subaru’s X-Mode system with Hill Descent Control, plus the larger 11.6-inch infotainment setup and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s the trim that most clearly balances price and equipment.
• Sport: This trim adds a more distinctive look with bronze accents and 19-inch wheels, plus the dual-function version of X-Mode. It suits you if you want a little more style and capability without jumping all the way to the top.
• Limited: This is the step up if you want a more upscale cabin with genuine leather seating surfaces and more available premium equipment. It’s a good fit if comfort matters more than keeping the price as low as possible.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped Forester, with navigation, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a digital rearview mirror, surround view monitor, reverse automatic braking, and access to Emergency Stop Assist. It’s the right choice if you want the most features and the most advanced safety tech.

Touring also gets the most complete safety and convenience setup, while Emergency Stop Assist is limited to vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,120 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,854, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $30,854 sits slightly below last year's $33,134.

That price movement suggests the Forester has softened enough to create a more approachable used-car entry point, which can help future buyers feel like they’re getting value. For a seller, though, it means you may not recover as much as owners did a year ago if market conditions stay similar.

The good news is that the model’s broad appeal, standard all-wheel drive, and practical reputation should continue to support demand. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain its safety and convenience features, it should remain attractive to used shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is too new to have been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, and for 2025 it gains a wider field of view thanks to a third standard camera that can spot cyclists and pedestrians earlier. A rear seat reminder system is also standard, and Subaru adds an electric brake booster. Emergency Stop Assist is available only on vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially limits it to the Touring trim.

The main caveat is that some of the most advanced safety hardware is not universal across the lineup. Touring gets the most complete safety package, including a digital rearview mirror, surround view monitor, reverse automatic braking, and Emergency Stop Assist.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 model adds a quieter cabin, more advanced tech, and expanded safety features.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds rugged Wilderness-focused hardware for drivers who want more off-pavement capability.

The bottom line: If you want the most balanced used Forester right now, the 2025 is the better primary choice because it combines softer pricing, strong inventory, and meaningful updates. If your budget is tighter, you can also shop carefully for a lower-priced 2025 listing and still get the newer tech and safety improvements.
