How much does the 2025 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 5.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,918 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Subaru Forester earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It fits well if you want a practical compact crossover with standard all-wheel drive, a quieter cabin than before, and more advanced tech and safety offerings than the outgoing version. The trade-offs are that the styling remains generic and the infotainment graphics feel dated, and there is no hybrid option available.

36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2025 Forester’s appeal is rooted in its practical, function-first design and Subaru’s emphasis on all-weather confidence. The expert notes also point to a quieter cabin than before, which is a meaningful everyday improvement for a vehicle built around utility and consistency.

Its standard all-wheel drive and refined road manners support the sense that this is a dependable daily driver, while the updated safety and tech package adds to its long-term usefulness. The performance notes also emphasize that the cabin noise is less intrusive than expected, which is a good sign for ownership comfort over time.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is that the model’s conservative powertrain and dated infotainment presentation may feel less modern as the years go by.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model comes with cloth upholstery, blue contrast stitching, standard roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, and two 7-inch touchscreens, while higher trims add more upscale materials and larger wheels. The Sport trim gets StarTex material and bronze accents, Limited adds leather seating surfaces and 18-inch wheels, and Touring brings leather, 19-inch wheels, a low-profile roof rack, and chrome badging.
• Powertrain: Every 2025 Forester uses a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. X-Mode becomes standard at the Premium trim level, and Sport and higher trims get a dual-function version.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, along with a rear seat reminder system, a wider field of view from a third standard camera, and an electric brake booster. Emergency Stop Assist is available only on vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially limits it to the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: The 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is standard on all but the base trim and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base model keeps two 7-inch touchscreens with wired smartphone projection, while Premium and up add dual front USB-A and USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the Forester at 26 mpg city, 33 highway, and 29 combined. Sport and Touring trims return 25/32/28.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value entry point if you want standard all-wheel drive, the updated styling, and the core Forester formula without paying for the larger infotainment setup. It’s the trim to consider if you care most about keeping the purchase price down while still getting the essentials.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds X-Mode, the 11.6-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more convenience features. If you want the biggest jump in everyday usability without moving too far up the price ladder, this is the one to target.
• Sport: This trim adds a more distinctive look with bronze accents and StarTex upholstery, and it can be a smart pick if you want a more upscale-feeling cabin without going all the way to the top trims. It also gets the dual-function version of X-Mode.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want leather seating surfaces and a more premium feel, plus the option to add the upgraded sound system with navigation and reverse automatic braking. It’s a good middle ground if comfort matters more than price.
• Touring: This is the most feature-rich Forester, with standard navigation, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a digital rearview mirror, surround view monitor, reverse automatic braking, and access to Emergency Stop Assist. It makes the most sense if you want the most complete safety and convenience package.

The Touring trim is also the one tied to the driver-distraction mitigation setup needed for Emergency Stop Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

The market looks selective but workable for buyers who are ready to move on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,918 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,394, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $31,394 sits slightly below last year's $33,377.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.

Because the Forester has strong owner satisfaction and a practical reputation, well-kept examples should continue to draw steady interest. If you maintain the vehicle carefully and keep it accident-free, you’ll be in a better position to preserve value when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is too new to have been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, and for 2025 it gains a wider field of view thanks to a third standard camera that can spot cyclists and pedestrians earlier. A rear seat reminder system is also standard, and the added electric brake booster supports the safety package.

Emergency Stop Assist is a notable available feature: if adaptive cruise control is active and the driver becomes unresponsive, the system can try to regain attention, slow the vehicle to a stop, notify emergency services, activate the hazard lights, and unlock the doors. That feature is limited to vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially means Touring trim.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a quieter cabin, more advanced tech, and more standard safety equipment.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds rugged Wilderness-focused capability with all-terrain hardware and improved off-road geometry.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of value, safety, and everyday usability, the 2025 is the better primary choice. If your priorities lean toward more specialized rugged capability, the 2026 is the one to watch. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2025 remains the more straightforward buy because the market already shows softened pricing and solid inventory.
