How much does the 2025 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 6.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,960 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Subaru Forester earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It keeps the Forester’s practical, function-first character while adding a quieter cabin, more advanced tech, and a better-equipped base model. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact crossover that prioritizes everyday usability, all-weather confidence, and family-friendly features over flashy styling.

The main trade-offs are generic styling and dated infotainment graphics, and there’s no hybrid option available.

With 37.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Forester’s appeal here comes from its practical design, standard all-wheel drive, and reputation for being easy to live with in everyday use. The 2025 model also adds a quieter cabin and more advanced safety and tech features, which can make ownership feel more polished than before.

Its 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder and standard CVT are tuned for steady, predictable driving rather than excitement, and Subaru’s standard AWD system supports confidence in poor weather. The added refinement for 2025 should help it feel more settled over time.

If you buy used, the biggest long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example with wear from heavy daily use, so condition matters more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on cabin condition, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the tech and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes with cloth upholstery, 17-inch alloy wheels, standard roof rails, and two 7-inch touchscreens, while higher trims add more upscale materials and larger wheels.
• Powertrain: Every 2025 Forester uses a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard, with a wider field of view from a third camera, a rear seat reminder, and an electric brake booster; Emergency Stop Assist is limited to Touring-equipped vehicles with the driver distraction-mitigation system.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses dual 7-inch touchscreens with wired smartphone projection and USB-A only, while higher trims get an 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA updates, and additional connectivity features.
• Fuel efficiency: The Forester is rated at 26 mpg city, 33 highway, and 29 combined, while Sport and Touring trims return 25/32/28.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the Forester’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get standard all-wheel drive, EyeSight safety tech, roof rails, and the updated exterior look, but you give up the larger infotainment system and some convenience upgrades.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds Subaru’s X-Mode with Hill Descent Control, plus the 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual front USB-A and USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Sport: This trim adds a more distinctive look with bronze accents and 19-inch wheels, plus StarTex seating and dual-function X-Mode. It suits you if you want a more upscale appearance and a bit more capability-focused equipment.
• Limited: This is the step-up choice if you want leather seating surfaces and more premium comfort and tech. It also opens the door to upgraded audio and navigation equipment, making it a strong pick if you want a more polished daily driver.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but Emergency Stop Assist is limited to Touring-equipped vehicles with the driver distraction-mitigation system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,960 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.24% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,270, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $31,270 sits slightly below last year's $33,352.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.

Because the Forester has strong practical appeal and standard all-wheel drive, well-kept examples should remain easy to explain to used buyers. If you maintain it carefully and keep it clean, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is too new as of this writing to have been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, along with a rear seat reminder system, a wider field of view from a third camera, and an electric brake booster. Emergency Stop Assist is available only on vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which effectively limits it to the Touring trim.

That means the Forester is well equipped for family use, but some of its most advanced safety hardware is reserved for higher trims.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 model adds a quieter cabin, more advanced tech, and a better-equipped base trim.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds all-terrain capability and rugged hardware for drivers who want more off-pavement confidence.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of value, refinement, and everyday usability, the 2025 is the better all-around buy. If your priorities lean toward rugged capability and you’re willing to wait for a different flavor of Forester, the 2026 is the one to watch. For most used-car shoppers, though, the 2025 offers the more straightforward and better-supported purchase.
