CarGurus Analysis: 2025 BMW X5 M
Summary
With 146 currently listed for sale and an average price of $103,146, 45.9% of 2025 BMW X5 M listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
95.2% of 2025 BMW X5 M listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2025 BMW X5 M stands out because it sits at the performance end of BMW’s midsize luxury SUV lineup, and the X5 itself has long been known for being one of the more dynamic SUVs in its class. BMW’s broader X5 family is built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, and the model line is described as offering handling that is far more precise than that of the Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLE, which helps explain why the X5 M has such a strong enthusiast following. It also benefits from the X5’s generally roomy cabin and generous cargo space, though BMW’s split tailgate design can make it harder to reach items that slide forward toward the back seat.
For the fourth-generation X5, the M model returned in 2020 with at least 600 horsepower, and the X5 M Competition followed with 617 horsepower. That same generation later received a significant refresh for 2024, which sharpened the styling, added a new BMW Curved Display, and brought a new standard six-cylinder engine with more power and better fuel economy. The X5 M also gained mild-hybrid technology in that update, which improved output and efficiency. Those changes make the 2025 X5 M appealing as a high-performance luxury SUV that combines serious pace with newer technology and a more modern cabin presentation.
There are tradeoffs, though. BMW’s own buying guide notes that X5 M pricing is considerably higher than standard models, and V8-engined X5s are not fuel-efficient, which raises ownership costs. The broader X5 line also carries an unimpressive reliability rating, so a well-maintained example matters. For buyers who want an SUV that is quick, sharp to drive, and loaded with performance hardware, the 2025 BMW X5 M is distinctive precisely because it blends those traits with the everyday usefulness of a two-row luxury SUV.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 M a good car?
The 2025 BMW X5 M is a strong choice if you want a high-performance luxury SUV that blends serious pace with everyday usefulness. It sits at the performance end of BMW’s midsize luxury SUV lineup, and the X5 family is known for handling that is far more precise than the Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLE.
You also get the X5’s roomy cabin and generous cargo space, which makes this a more practical performance SUV than many rivals. The tradeoff is that BMW’s own buying guidance points to higher pricing than standard models, and the X5 M is aimed at buyers who value sharp driving dynamics and premium performance hardware over low running costs.
With 47.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market currently gives you a decent amount of shopping leverage.
Is the 2025 BMW X5 M reliable?
The 2025 BMW X5 M benefits from the broader X5’s newer cabin updates and refreshed presentation, but BMW’s broader X5 line is described as having an unimpressive reliability rating. That means the model’s appeal is more about performance and refinement than long-term simplicity.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a high-performance V8 luxury SUV can become expensive to keep in top shape if maintenance has been deferred.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW X5 M?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a performance-focused luxury SUV with potentially expensive repairs. Focus on maintenance records, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car has been cared for consistently rather than just how it looks on the lot.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW X5 M?
This is a favorable time to shop if you want a performance SUV and are willing to compare listings carefully, because the market shows a meaningful share of discounted inventory.
- Deal availability: 47.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 146 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 95.2% of listings are accident-free.
Should I buy a 2025 BMW X5 M or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 47.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
The bottom line: The 2025 BMW X5 M is the right pick if you want the latest version of this high-performance luxury SUV and you value its blend of speed, handling, and everyday usability. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may give you a similar ownership experience with a lower entry cost, so it’s worth comparing listings side by side before you commit.
