Is the 2025 BMW M3 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M3 earns an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.

The 2025 BMW M3 stands out as one of the most capable and versatile super sedans, pairing everyday usability with serious high-performance character. It remains a purpose-built performance sedan that still aims to work as a daily driver, and that breadth of configurations adds to its appeal if you want one car that can handle commuting and spirited driving.

Key things to evaluate: The styling won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, the infotainment takes some getting used to, and the car feels heavy and dimensionally large. Those trade-offs matter most if you value easygoing controls or a lighter-feeling sedan over outright capability.

The market shows 35.1% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW M3 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M3 is presented as a well-rounded performance sedan that still aims to work as a daily driver, and its broad configuration range suggests BMW built it to serve more than one kind of buyer. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its intuitive traction control systems and strong all-around capability, which supports the idea that it’s engineered to be used hard without feeling fragile.

Its performance hardware is described as serious and confidence-inspiring, with cooling hardware, adaptive dampers, and a powertrain that delivers strong acceleration across the rev range. The cost-effectiveness discussion also notes that you get a level of high-performance capability that supercars could only dream of 15 years ago in an everyday-friendly package.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a high-performance sedan with complex hardware, so condition and maintenance history matter more than they would on a mainstream car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with performance hardware and optional driver-assistance equipment. Focus on how the car has been used, whether the controls and electronics work cleanly, and whether the suspension, brakes, and tires show signs of hard driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard car emphasizes a manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, adaptive dampers, and a comfortable, chic interior, while the higher trims add more power, an automatic transmission, and in the xDrive version, all-wheel drive. The base trim does not include the Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Powertrain: All versions use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. The base model makes 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, while the Competition trim rises to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft. The base car uses a six-speed manual, and Competition trims use an eight-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. BMW’s Active Driving Assistant Pro adds radar cruise control, lane-centering, lane-change assist, traffic jam assist, and evasion assist.
• Infotainment: The M3 uses a 14.9-inch iDrive 8.5 system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM compatibility, and Bluetooth standard. It also has a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The M3 returns an EPA-rated 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2025 BMW M3 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW M3 is offered in 3 trim levels: M3, Competition, Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• M3: This is the one to buy if you want the purest version of the car, with the six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, adaptive dampers, and the most direct connection to the M3’s character. It’s the best-value trim if you care most about driver involvement.
• Competition: Choose this if you want more power and the eight-speed automatic, along with the extra performance and convenience that come with the higher-output setup.
• Competition xDrive: Pick this if you want the quickest acceleration and the added traction of all-wheel drive, especially if you expect to drive in less-than-ideal conditions.

The standard safety suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Driving Assistance Professional Package is not available on the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW M3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 333 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $89,872, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW M3's resale value?

The current average of $89,872 sits slightly below last year's $92,117.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure than before. For a future seller, it also means you should expect strong enthusiast demand, but not assume the car will appreciate just because it’s an M3.

Because the current average is still near the top of the year-round range, well-kept examples should remain relatively desirable. If you maintain the car carefully and keep mileage and condition in check, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2025 BMW M3 safe?

The 2025 BMW M3 has not been rated by IIHS or NHTSA at the time of this writing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. BMW’s Active Driving Assistant Pro adds radar cruise control, lane-centering, lane-change assist, traffic jam assist, and evasion assist.

One caveat is that the standard forward collision warning can be a little hasty at times, though the system is otherwise described as seamless and inoffensive for the most part.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW M3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.44% compared with last year.
• The 2025 model year brings a handful of exterior and tech mid-cycle updates that keep the formula fresh.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this generation with strong performance and a broad mix of configurations, the 2025 is the right target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year can still deliver the core M3 experience, but the 2025 gives you the latest updates and a market that’s softened a bit.
