Is the 2024 Subaru WRX a good car?

The 2024 Subaru WRX stands out because it keeps the formula that made the nameplate famous: a turbocharged Boxer engine, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and a setup aimed squarely at enthusiasts who want a practical sports car. It is also part of the WRX’s latest generation, which debuted for the 2022 model year and is sedan-only. For buyers who value all-weather traction and a manual transmission, that combination remains a major part of the WRX’s appeal.

For 2024, the WRX also gains a new TR trim level. That version brings a Brembo braking system, 19-inch alloy wheels, Recaro sport seats, and retuned suspension settings for increased performance. More broadly, the WRX lineup offers a mix of performance and everyday usability, with features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and available upgrades like an 11.6-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive dampers on higher trims.

There are tradeoffs, though. The WRX’s pros include fun-to-drive handling and standard all-wheel drive, while its cons include outdated technology, a cramped back seat in older models, and poor fuel economy. Even so, the 2024 Subaru WRX remains distinctive because it delivers rally-bred character in a mainstream package without giving up the practicality that helps it fit into daily life.

With 36.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of opportunities to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Subaru WRX reliable?

The 2024 Subaru WRX remains distinctive because it delivers rally-bred character in a mainstream package without giving up the practicality that helps it fit into daily life. It also offers a mix of performance and everyday usability, which can make it easier to live with than a more specialized sports car.

At the same time, the WRX’s poor fuel economy and performance-focused setup mean you should expect a used example to have been driven with enthusiasm more often than an ordinary sedan. For long-term ownership, that makes maintenance history and condition especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru WRX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car’s maintenance records match its mileage and use. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified, driven hard, or equipped with performance-oriented hardware. Focus your condition check on tires, brakes, suspension, and signs of wear that could point to enthusiastic ownership.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru WRX?

This looks like a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

If you find a listing below $30,155, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $30,298 sits slightly below last year's $31,593.

That price movement suggests the WRX has softened enough to improve your buying position today. If you plan to resell later, the current market gives you a clearer benchmark for what a fair exit price might look like. Because the model still has enthusiast appeal, well-kept examples should remain easier to market than neglected ones.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.10% compared with last year.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,008, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $30,298 average.
• It keeps the enthusiast-focused formula with strong handling and a manual transmission.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing context and a broader set of current listings, the 2024 is the better primary target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2023 is the smarter secondary path because it delivers much of the same enthusiast appeal for less.
