Used 2024 Subaru Outback for Sale nearColumbia, SC

How much does the 2024 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 6.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,571 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.5/5 user-rated model with an expert score of 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The Outback’s appeal comes from its raised station wagon shape, higher ride height, excellent visibility, and spacious interior. It is especially well suited to you if you want everyday usefulness and comfort without moving to a larger SUV.

The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine and a dated infotainment system. If you value comfort, visibility, and versatility more than outright performance or the newest tech, the Outback fits that brief well.

38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s standard all-wheel drive, strong safety ratings, and practical design all support its reputation as a dependable everyday vehicle. Its comfort-focused ride and broad trim range also suggest it is built to serve a wide range of buyers without feeling overly specialized.

The turbocharged powertrain is the better fit if you want stronger performance, while the base engine is the weaker point in the lineup. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a lower-trim example that feels underpowered for your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the interior, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Premium trims come with cloth seats, while Onyx Edition and Wilderness use StarTex synthetic leather and Limited adds standard leather seating surfaces. The Touring trim stands out with the most chrome, a more upscale interior, and the largest infotainment screen.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter flat-four with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, while XT versions upgrade to a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The turbo setup also raises towing capacity from 2,700 to 3,500 lbs.
• Safety package: The EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert becomes standard on the Onyx Edition, and reverse automatic braking starts with the Onyx trim level.
• Infotainment: The base trim keeps the dual-7-inch-screen system, while higher trims get the 11.6-inch portrait-oriented screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto start with Premium, and Wi-Fi capability comes on all but the base trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is EPA-rated at 26 mpg city, 32 highway, and 28 combined. The turbo engine is estimated at 22 mpg city and 25 combined, while the Wilderness is rated at 21 city, 26 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2024 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Outback is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the least expensive way into the Outback, but it is also the most stripped-down version. You get the standard cloth interior, the smaller dual-screen infotainment setup, USB-A only, and the four-speaker audio system, so it makes the most sense if your priority is keeping costs low.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi capability, USB-C ports, and the larger infotainment screen while staying below the more expensive specialty trims. If you want a more modern daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the one to target.
• Onyx Edition: This trim is the smart step up if you want more equipment and a more distinctive look. It adds StarTex synthetic leather and brings in blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, making it a strong choice if you want more comfort and safety content.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the most rugged version of the Outback. It gets the turbo engine, 9.2 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and dual-function X-Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes.
• Limited: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin without going all the way to the top. It adds standard leather seating surfaces and more chrome exterior detailing, giving you a more premium feel.
• Touring: This is the most luxurious Outback and the one to buy if you want the most comfort and tech. It adds the CD player, the largest screen, a wide-angle camera, a digital rearview mirror, and a driver-attention monitor.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Onyx Edition and Touring add meaningful extra features that make them especially appealing.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Outback?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,571 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,446, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $28,616 sits slightly below last year's $30,467.

That softer pricing can help you buy more value now, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the market holds up. If prices stabilize, today’s lower entry point could help you avoid overpaying and preserve more value later.

Trim choice will matter too, since better-equipped versions and the turbo models are likely to stay more desirable than the most basic examples. A clean history and strong condition should also help support resale when it is your turn to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2024 Subaru Outback earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it five stars overall.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Reverse automatic braking becomes standard starting with the Onyx trim level, while blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert also become standard on the Onyx Edition.

Touring adds a wide-angle camera, a digital rearview mirror, and a driver-attention monitor. The main caveat is that the Outback lost the Top Safety Pick+ designation it had in the prior model year.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the raised wagon shape, strong safety ratings, and broad trim range that make it practical and distinctive.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,908, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $28,616 average.
• It adds fresh styling, new infotainment and safety tech, and a more accessible Onyx Edition.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $31,833, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $28,616 average.
• It remains a rugged wagon with standard all-wheel drive and strong everyday practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and trim variety, the 2024 is the primary pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 is the smarter value play, while the 2025 makes sense only if you are willing to pay more for a newer model year.
