How much does the 2024 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 8.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,736 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2024 GMC Canyon a good car?

The 2024 GMC Canyon is a strong choice if you want a midsize pickup that feels more upscale and more capable than many rivals, though its price and packaging trade-offs matter. It earns a 3/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

It stands out for excellent materials quality, outstanding tech, and a high-output turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers plenty of power for towing, hauling, and off-road use. The trade-offs are a cramped back seat and a shorter bed than competitors, so it fits you best if you value capability and a premium feel over maximum passenger or cargo space.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 GMC Canyon reliable?

The 2024 GMC Canyon is built around a robust turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain, and the expert evaluation describes it as more than capable for towing, hauling, and off-road driving. The truck’s road manners are also described as composed, with well-damped noise and a transmission that suits the engine well.

Its performance content also points to strong mechanical capability, including 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, plus a drivetrain setup that varies by trim to match intended use. On the cost side, the Canyon’s operating expenses can run high because fuel economy is described as poor for the class.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that capability and premium positioning can translate into higher running costs and pricier repairs than you might expect from a midsize truck.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, off-roading, or heavy commuting. Focus on tire wear, suspension condition, brake feel, and signs that the truck’s premium equipment has been used hard or not maintained carefully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation is the closest thing to a work-truck setup, while AT4 leans off-road, Denali leans luxury, and AT4X goes further toward rugged capability. The base trim still comes with dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, an 11-inch digital gauge cluster, and an 11.3-inch touchscreen, so you are not starting from a stripped-down truck.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the most powerful version of the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The truck is tuned for towing, hauling, and off-road driving, and the eight-speed automatic is described as a good match.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder system. Rear park assist, rear cross-traffic braking, and blind-zone steering assist require the Canyon Safety Plus package on lower trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes an 11.3-inch touchscreen, Google Built-in, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The software also includes off-road performance display pages, and the Denali and AT4X add a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The best-rated setup returns 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined, while the AT4X AEV tester was rated at 16 mpg across the board.

Which 2024 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation, AT4, Denali, and AT4X.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation: This is the value play if you want the Canyon’s core strengths without jumping deep into the price ladder. It still gives you the big standard touchscreen, digital gauge cluster, and a well-equipped cabin, and it is the only trim offered with rear-wheel drive.
• AT4: This is the best fit if you want a more off-road-oriented Canyon without going all the way to the top. It adds standard four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case, making it the most balanced choice for buyers who want capability without the AT4X’s extreme pricing.
• Denali: Choose this if you want the most upscale feel. It leans into luxury and adds a head-up display, making it the trim for buyers who care most about comfort and premium presentation.
• AT4X: This is the most capable and most specialized version, especially with the AEV package. It adds front and rear lockers, a two-speed transfer case, and off-road hardware that makes it the clear pick for serious trail use, but it is also the most expensive.

The safety package is standard on the truck, but several advanced driver-assist features still cost extra on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Canyon?

This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep distress pricing across the board.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,736 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,014, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $40,014 sits slightly below last year's $43,504.

That decline suggests the Canyon has softened in the used market, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. If you plan to sell later, the truck’s premium positioning and strong equipment list may help it hold appeal, but the current trend shows buyers are not paying as much as they did a year ago. For you, that means depreciation has already done some of the work, though resale strength will still depend on trim, mileage, and condition.

Is the 2024 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2024 GMC Canyon earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side-impact testing.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder system. On lower trims, rear park assist, rear cross-traffic braking, and blind-zone steering assist require the Canyon Safety Plus package. The expert evaluation also notes that many advanced driver-assist features are only available through option packages unless you move up the trim ladder.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• The new AEV package adds extra height, 35-inch tires, steel skid plates, and a full-size spare for serious off-road use.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $38,629, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $40,014 average.
• It offers a redesigned Canyon with a premium feel and strong tech.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with the added AEV hardware and you value the current market softness, the 2024 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you do not need the latest off-road package, the 2023 is the smarter value play.
