How much does the 2024 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,280 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable number of options to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

It’s positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans into design, technology, and comfort, and it works well if you want a refined daily driver rather than a purely sporty one. The cabin is quiet, the ride quality is strong, and the car feels plush and easy to live with.

The trade-offs are clear: it gives up some of the driving joy many buyers expect from a BMW, and it also brings poor fuel economy. Cargo space is another limitation, especially with the spare tire in place.

For shoppers who want a calm, comfortable luxury sedan, that balance may work well. If you want a more engaging BMW experience, this one may feel less distinctive.

35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is described as quiet, comfortable, and capable, with a refined powertrain that feels smooth in everyday driving. Its turbocharged four-cylinder setup is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that aids efficiency, and the transmission shifts almost imperceptibly.

BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. That said, the car’s poor fuel economy and premium positioning mean long-term ownership costs can still run high for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury sedan with a lot of technology. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy use, and whether the car’s equipment matches what you expect from the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530i is the entry point, and the M Sport treatment adds a more aggressive look and a more upscale cabin presentation. Base versions can feel less expressive than the better-equipped cars, so pay attention to whether the features you want are included.
• Powertrain: The 530i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It’s smooth, quiet, and capable in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Driving Assistant Professional adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist.
• Infotainment: The curved display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with BMW Operating System 8.5, wireless smartphone charging, connected services, and a personal eSIM 5G connection.
• Fuel efficiency: The 530i is estimated at 30 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 24.7 mpg on the evaluation loop and 26.7 mpg over the week.

Which 2024 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 530i and 540i.

Here's the short version:

• 530i: This is the trim to target if you want the best value. It delivers the core 5 Series experience with the turbocharged four-cylinder, the curved display, wireless smartphone integration, and standard Active Driving Assistant. It’s the most affordable way into the lineup and should suit you if comfort, tech, and refinement matter more than outright power.
• 540i: Choose this if you want more performance and are willing to pay for it. It sits above the 530i and is the better fit if you want a stronger engine and a more upscale feel, but the data here points to the 530i as the smarter buy for most shoppers.

BMW’s standard safety package is Active Driving Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional remains an option if you want more advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,280 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $43,695, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $43,738 sits slightly below last year's $46,890.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If prices continue to soften, future sellers may need to be more competitive to attract shoppers.

On the other hand, the model’s strong satisfaction rating can help support demand over time. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 530i with Active Driving Assistant, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard, adding automatic collision notification and an SOS emergency request button.

If you want more advanced assistance, the Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist. The car does not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating because it hasn’t been assessed in a new moderate-overlap frontal-impact evaluation.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2024 model emphasizes design, technology, and comfort, with a quiet cabin and strong ride quality.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with a calmer, more comfort-focused personality, the 2024 is the better path. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby model year may offer a lower entry price, but the 2024’s softer pricing and strong inventory make it worth serious consideration now.
