How much does the 2024 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,210 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The redesigned 5 Series is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans hard into comfort and refinement, with a great ride quality, a comfortable cabin, and a quiet interior standing out. It is also described as a capable sports sedan that can double as a plush people mover, so it fits you best if you want a polished luxury car first and foremost.

The trade-offs are clear: the driving experience is described as lacking joy, and the car gives up some of BMW’s traditional character. You also have to live with poor fuel economy and not much cargo space with the spare tire.

With 37.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 5 Series is presented as a quiet, comfortable, and capable luxury sedan, and the expert review also emphasizes that the powertrain is quiet and smooth. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system aids efficiency, and BMW says the 530i can reach 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.

BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s complexity and premium hardware can make repairs and upkeep more expensive once coverage ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the market looks clean overall. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the cabin electronics, infotainment controls, and any optional driver-assistance equipment. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition, since this model’s premium features and technology are a big part of what you’re paying for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530i is the entry point, and the review notes that it is the least powerful and most affordable version. It still looks and feels like a luxury car, but the base setup leaves you with a driving experience that is more refined than engaging.
• Powertrain: The 530i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. BMW says it can reach 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, and the engine is described as quiet and smooth.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard. Driving Assistant Professional adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen under BMW Curved Display with iDrive 8.5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with connected services, a personal eSIM 5G connection, SiriusXM 360L, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The 530i is estimated at 30 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 26.7 mpg during the week.

Which 2024 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 530i, 540i, i5 40, i5 M60.

Here's the short version:

• 530i: This is the best-value starting point if you want the core 5 Series experience without stretching for more power. It gives you the quiet, comfortable, tech-forward character that defines the car, along with the standard safety suite and the curved-display infotainment setup.
• 540i: If you want more performance headroom than the 530i, this is the step-up gas trim to consider. It should suit you if you want the same luxury focus but expect a stronger powertrain.
• i5 40: This is the electric entry in the lineup for shoppers who want to move away from gasoline power. It belongs to a separate electric branch of the range rather than the standard gas model.
• i5 M60: This is the performance-oriented electric choice for buyers who want the most aggressive version of the lineup. It sits at the top of the range and is the one to consider if you want maximum output rather than value.

BMW’s standard safety package is Active Driving Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional remains an option if you want the more advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,210 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,692, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $42,692 sits slightly below last year's $46,452.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can expect. If you buy at the current average or below, you reduce the chance of taking an immediate depreciation hit. The model’s premium positioning and strong demand for well-equipped luxury sedans can still support resale interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 530i with Active Driving Assistant, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard, adding automatic collision notification and an SOS emergency request button.

If you want more advanced driver assistance, the Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist. The package also brings Distance Control and Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change for approved limited-access highways.

The main caveat is that the car does not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating because it has not been assessed in a new moderate-overlap frontal-impact evaluation.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2024 model emphasizes comfort, refinement, and a quiet cabin while adding a modern curved-display cabin and updated driver-assistance tech.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with strong comfort, modern tech, and a softer used-market price, the 2024 is the primary path to consider. If you’re more price-sensitive and want to spend less, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you’ll be trading away the latest redesign and current-market inventory.
