Is the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale a good car?

The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale earns an 8.5/10 expert rating, and its strongest category score is Look and feel at 10/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The Tonale’s appeal is rooted in its styling and its role as Alfa Romeo’s first compact SUV, and it also brings standard all-wheel drive plus easy-to-use technology. Those strengths make it a compelling choice if you want a compact SUV that feels distinctive without being difficult to live with.

The main trade-offs are standard cloth seats and a moonroof that costs extra on every trim.

With 47.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale reliable?

The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is presented as a new model with standard all-wheel drive and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and Alfa also says the vehicle’s NFT certificate can track its life and serve as digital proof of proper maintenance.

The powertrain is described as a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a battery pack and rear motor, and the expert notes say it delivers confident handling, intuitive steering, and reasonable acceleration at all speeds. That combination points to a vehicle that should feel straightforward in daily use rather than demanding to own.

Alfa also includes three years of service with each new Tonale, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For a used buyer, the biggest long-term risk is that this is still a relatively new and uncommon model, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and how well the vehicle has been cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report, confirm the maintenance record, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on whether the car’s condition matches its mileage, especially for interior wear, electronics, and any signs of inconsistent upkeep.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tonale is presented in three trims: Sprint, Ti, and Veloce. The Sprint has a dark grille, the Ti gets a silver grille surround, and the Veloce uses Gloss Black trim and standard Alcantara seats, so the higher trims are the ones to target if you want a more upscale look and feel.
• Powertrain: All U.S. Tonales use the same plug-in hybrid setup with standard all-wheel drive, a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 15.5-kWh battery pack, and a rear-mounted 90-kW motor. The system makes 285 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque, and Alfa says it can reach 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes active blind-spot assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, brake assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, Full Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, lane-keep assist, front and rear park-assist sensors, rear cross-path detection, and traffic-sign recognition. The Active Assist Plus package adds Level 2 ADAS, intelligent speed control, front ParkSense, Park Assist, and a 360-degree camera view, and it is available on all three trims.
• Infotainment: The Tonale comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch driver information display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and Alexa integration. It also uses Uconnect 5 and supports up to five user profiles.
• Fuel efficiency: Alfa does not state fuel economy figures here, but it does say the Tonale offers more than 30 miles of pure electric range.

Which 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale trim should I buy?

The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is offered in 3 trim levels: Sprint, Ti, and Veloce.

Here's the short version:

• Sprint: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Tonale’s core appeal: standard all-wheel drive, the plug-in hybrid powertrain, wireless smartphone integration, and the same basic safety suite. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the model and are comfortable skipping the more upscale trim details.
• Ti: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale grille treatment and can be optioned with features like the paddle shifters and the Premium Interior and Sound package. If you want a nicer-feeling Tonale without jumping straight to the top trim, this is the one to focus on.
• Veloce: This is the most distinctive trim, with standard 19-inch wheels, standard paddle shifters, and Alcantara seats. Choose it if you want the most premium appearance and the most complete standard equipment.

The Active Assist Plus package is available on all three trims, so you can add the advanced driver-assistance features regardless of which version you choose.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale?

The market leans in your favor right now, with strong deal availability and a large enough listing pool to give you options.

• Deal availability: 47.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 374 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,045, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale's resale value?

The current average of $24,045 sits slightly below last year's $29,702.

That price movement suggests the Tonale has become more affordable in the used market, which can help you buy in at a lower cost today. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect resale values to reflect the model’s current softer pricing rather than the higher levels seen a year ago.

If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it carefully, you’ll be in a better position to protect value. But if you’re buying mainly with resale in mind, the recent decline means you should be conservative about what you pay now.

Is the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety features are nearly all standard on the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale, including active blind-spot assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, brake assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, Full Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, lane-keep assist, front and rear park-assist sensors, rear cross-path detection, and traffic-sign recognition.

If you want more advanced driver assistance, the Active Assist Plus package adds Level 2 ADAS, intelligent speed control, front ParkSense, Park Assist, and a 360-degree camera view. It is available on all three trims.

One caveat is that the lane-keep assist can be intrusive at times, so you may want to test that system carefully during a drive.

Should I buy a 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 47.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.04% compared with last year.
• The 2024 stands out for its first-new-model significance, standard all-wheel drive, and distinctive styling.

The bottom line: If you want the Tonale’s current mix of style, standard AWD, and strong market pricing, the 2024 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should focus on the listings that sit near the low end of the range and compare trim levels carefully before you buy.
