Used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

Prices have softened 1.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,736 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The Jetta’s appeal comes through as a practical family sedan with a comfortable cabin, a pleasant interior design, and a ride-and-handling balance that works well for everyday driving. It is also positioned as a value-minded compact sedan rather than something flashy, which fits the way it delivers its strengths.

The trade-offs are clear: styling is uninspired, and performance can feel sluggish. Even so, the Jetta’s market position and equipment make it a sensible choice if you want a straightforward sedan with broad everyday usefulness.

Good and great deals account for 39.7% of listings, which suggests there is meaningful room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Jetta’s overall package points toward dependable everyday use: it has a comfortable cabin, a compliant ride, and practical ownership perks that support low-stress driving. Its standard powertrain is modest but well suited to front-wheel-drive commuting, and the car’s safety and convenience features add to its day-to-day appeal.

It also comes with free scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles and no-charge roadside assistance for three years and 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s mixed performance character and safety caveats make condition and maintenance history especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because even a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the specific car you are considering has a clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are looking at higher-mileage examples or cars with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, since the Jetta’s value proposition depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, Sport, SE, SEL, and GLI trims span the lineup, and the base model is the most stripped-down choice. The SEL stands out for its upgraded digital dials, larger infotainment screen, ambient lighting, genuine leather upholstery, and oversized power sunroof, while the GLI is a separate sport-tuned model with added power and more rewarding driving dynamics.
• Powertrain: The standard 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder makes 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. S and Sport trims use a six-speed manual as standard, while SE and SEL use an eight-speed automatic; the automatic adds Sport mode and manual shifting mode. All-wheel drive is unavailable.
• Safety package: IQ.Drive is standard on the SE and SEL, and it includes Travel Assist and Emergency Assist along with the expected driving-assistance and collision-avoidance systems. Manual-transmission models do not offer all IQ.Drive features.
• Infotainment: SEL trim gets a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. The system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Car-Net connected services add Wi-Fi hotspot capability plus remote and safety features.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA gas mileage rating for the Jetta SEL is 33 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 30 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 5 trim levels: S, Sport, SE, SEL, and GLI.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes the Jetta’s basic formula accessible if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup. It is the trim to consider if you care most about value and are willing to give up the richer tech and comfort upgrades found higher up.
• Sport: This trim adds a bit more appeal than the base model while staying relatively approachable. It is a good fit if you want a step up in equipment without jumping all the way to the more expensive trims.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the standard IQ.Drive safety package and moves the Jetta into a more well-rounded ownership experience. If you want the strongest mix of safety, features, and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
• SEL: This is the trim to buy if you want the most upscale Jetta experience short of the GLI. It brings the larger digital cockpit, bigger infotainment screen, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and the most premium-feeling cabin in the lineup.
• GLI: This is the performance-oriented choice, with a retuned suspension and a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine making 228 horsepower. Choose it only if you want the sportier character and are shopping specifically for the fun version of the Jetta.

IQ.Drive is standard on the SE and SEL, while manual-transmission models do not offer all IQ.Drive features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,736 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,485, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $19,542 sits slightly below last year's $19,801.

That softer pricing suggests the Jetta is not currently commanding a premium, which can be good news if you are buying but less favorable if you are planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to move the car quickly.

The Jetta’s practical appeal and broad usefulness should help it stay relevant with shoppers who want a straightforward compact sedan. Strong owner satisfaction also supports demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, but it earns four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates it Poor in a new moderate overlap frontal-impact crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite is standard on the SE and SEL, and it includes Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, while Emergency Assist can bring the car to a safe stop if it detects an unresponsive driver. The system is impressive overall, though the review notes occasional inaccurate lane-departure warnings, unnatural steering input, and a need for manual braking in a rapid slowdown.

The safety package is not fully standard across the lineup, and manual-transmission models do not offer all IQ.Drive features. The Poor IIHS result is the main caveat you should keep in mind when weighing this car’s safety story.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its comfortable ride, practical cabin, and strong safety equipment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,742, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $19,542 average.
• It offers a value-minded refresh with more standard features and a more modern feel.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the stronger current-market mix of pricing, inventory, and equipment, especially if you value the Jetta’s comfort and safety features. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2022 is the better path because it delivers a similar basic formula at a lower average price.
